New additions to our squad

Looking over some highlights packages posted on the club website, I cannot wait to see some of these blokes in action in the NAB cup and hopefully throughout the season.

Hombsch looks a fantastic replacement for Chaplin. Is great in the air and on the ground, has a pretty reasonable left boot on him and his 2nd efforts are outstanding. What impresses me the most is his closing speed on a contest. Some spoils he was effecting were amazing!

Stevenson and Heath are both your running backs in the pearce mould. Both have great skills (Stevenson is very accurate over 50-60 meters) and attack at any given opportunity. Both will need to watch the defensive aspects of their game, but some promising signs.

Im not sure how to describe Neade apart from perhaps a diamond in the rough. For a kid of 64kgs to attack the contest the way he does, baulk opponents like witches hats and break tackles with ease amazes me! He looks a great reader of the play and is smart around goals.

Am very much looking forward to draft day now......who should we be targeting with Pick 7?

Im liking Sam Mayes or Brodie Grundy with pick 7.

Sam Colquorn from Centrals looks very destructive via foot and im hoping he is available with pick 30.

I cannot believe no one has stated their excitement after the draft.
Ollie Wines will be a gun. I cannot believe Western Bulldogs passed him up!
I really hope they live to regret passing him up.
I must admit I hadn't heard of Clurey or Shaw before the draft (not that i was following it that closely) but after looking at some footage and interview I hold great hope (like every year).

They could still add a quality name or 3 in the rookie & pre season drafts.

Thoughts anyone??

I"m fairly happy with the selections, a tough in and under midfielder and 2 highly regarded key position players, one of which (Clurey) can play in both attack and defence.

Combined with Hombsch who can also play in defence, we've done a reasonable effort at plugging some holes.

Still a bit of a way to go, but the squad is looking quite a bit better than the last 2 to 3 years.

Our midfield of Hartlett, Boak, Wines, Wingard, Brad Ebert - with support from Braodbent and Moore - should be ok over the coming years.

I'm also looking forward to seeing how Neade settles into the club as well. There's also the 2 medium defenders from the Eagles and Sydney who provide a bit of depth to the squad.

Ch 10 reported that Brent Prismall
from the Bombers is training before the pre-season draft with Port.

The NAB will provide the best assessment as to how fruitful our off season has been.

Wines will be a very good player. I guess with the recent loss of jacobs im a bit nervous with the go home factor, but this seems to be a characteristic with the metro lads rather than vic country. He looks a great build and hopefully will form part of our next on ball brigade.

I thought we would look at Shaw. 198cm forwards dont pop up every day and he really does have a fantastic set of hands. From his highlights reel he is an accurate shot at goal, but his contested marking may get found out until he builds a bigger frame.

Clurey, I didnt think port would show interest in, given our recruits over the trade period. He is a player who adds attacking and defensive versitility to the group and could end up a great rebounding defender.

Hearing last night that Prismall is training with us is huge news. This bloke was part of the cats midfield circa 2007 and if he can get his body right, would be a big coup in the pre-season draft!

I'm not that keen on Prismall, personally.

Wirh Gray recovering from his knee injury, and Heath having had Lars, I think we need to be a little careful.

I'd probably prefer Bate from Melbourne.
