Temper Trap will be playing at half time and post game

INTERNATIONALLY renowned Australian band The Temper Trap will headline a revamped Grand Final day entertainment program which will see fans party on the MCG following the season's biggest game, the AFL has announced.

Australian music icons Paul Kelly and Tim Rogers will also be part of a line-up the League hopes will be a vast improvement on last year's debacle involving veteran American rocker Meat Loaf.

In a major shift from past year's, the AFL will open the MCG to Melburnians for an on-the-ground concert following the Grand Final.

The free concert will be open to everyone, not only those people who were able to purchase a ticket to attend the game.

The premiership team will be presented to the crowd as part of the concert, another change for previous years when the premiers have been presented at AAMI Park or Federation Square.

"The format changes to the pre-match entertainment, the introduction of a devoted half-time show and the post-match celebration event all enable fans to take part in Grand Final day like never before," AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou said.

"For the first time ever fans will have the chance to be at the home of football immediately after the biggest game of the year, regardless of whether you have a Grand Final ticket."

Temper Trap will play during the half-time break. That performance will take place on a stage in the middle of the MCG, rather than on the platform on the bottom deck of the Southern Stand where Meat Loaf strutted his stuff.

Kelly and Rogers will be part of the pre-game entertainment.

"After selling millions of albums and touring the world, I'm delighted The Temper Trap are coming home to play on the AFL’s biggest stage," Demetriou said.

"You can't get a bigger Australian band right now than The Temper Trap.

"Our fans have been telling us that they want more Australian music at the footy and we’ve acted on that by showcasing the best home-grown talent all season."

Well said, The Temper Trap are an amazing live band and if you watch the footy on TV I'm sure you would have heard their songs playing over the slow motion footage. Put Tim Rogers and Paul Kelly into the mix and you will have a great show.

If you don't know The Temper Trap, look them up on YouTube. Chances are you'd have heard the songs Sweet Disposition and Fader

Gee, half of you guys should join the rest of the people living in the 1950's over in the Music forum.

The Temper Trap are a pretty good band. Sure, they aren't one of my favourite acts, but they are Australian and will definitely put on a better performance than what Meatloaf dished up last year.

I think it's good that the AFL is trying something different with an up and coming artist instead of going for the usual ACDC etc which we've heard plenty of times before.

The AFL have "usual"lly had ACDC at Grand Finals?
Man, I must have been pissed at most GFs!

They could have Patsy Biscoe for all I care if the game is anything like last year's and has the same result.

Well I'm one of those old geezers but I'm happy for a young Aussie act to get this gig instead of paying for some washed up old yank whose voice died years ago.

Good job AFL.

I think it's great that a young Aussie band got the gig rather than some tired old hack from overseas. The Temper Trap aren't my cup of tea (too safe and sound and overproduced for this little black duck) but good luck to them. And please no Mark Seymour singing "Holy Bloody Grail"

Who really cares about the pre-match entertainment.

It's hard enough to stand up and sing the national anthem... :partyman:

Why do people think that there is a need for "entertainment" at a sporting contest?
I don't go to a gig expecting to see a basketball match as a support act, so why should
I have some z-grade act try to 'entertain' me?
