Talk on the national game

Jonathan Brown

Blokes a freak no doubt, most couragous player in the AFL but surely he has to change his game style a bit, has once again been involved in a head clash at training and is now getting scans to see the full extent.

Lucky, just hope he stays on the park this year, one of the best players to watch when he is firing.

Another headclash or injury this year would be disappointing, has hardly strung more than 3 matches in a row together in last few years.

Fractured left cheekbone, going in for surgery on Friday.
Doesnt appear to be as bad as last seasons injury but wont know full extent until operation.

I would think his career is in serious jeopardy. One can only sustain so many serious head injuries before it has serious ramifications on the rest of your life.

Agreed. He has a young family and surely that would be crossing his mind when contemplating the thought of continuing on.

I'm disappointed in what i'm hearing about his lack of awareness when on the field. All this talk about the 3 times he has bad facial injuries. James Hird was collected in the same sort of way Jono Brown was the first time, didn't hear an outcry of his recklessness. Hird was extremely courageous for his size.

First time: Takes a low down chest mark and Luke McPharlin running back towards Brown, cleans him up with his shin / knee. Hardly a reckless act, very unlucky.
Second time: Yes, charges back into a pack, courageous but reckless. Game was in balance though, if he takes the mark, I reckon Brisbane wins game.
Third Time: Sitting under a ball at training and a defender, Matt Maguire, charges back in the air and collects him. (just watched the video) Again hardly reckless and very unlucky.

Here's hoping he gets back on the field and dominates again, no secret he is one of my favourite players from an opposition team.

Not laughing at Browny, but Junior Boon ( 15 yrs old ) said to me last night :

See Browny today Dad, he broke his face again!

certainly is having a horror trot and we all want to see him on the ground....on his feet as opposed to most of the footage we've all seen lately.

If he retired through injury, there goes the last of the tough hard footballers, the rest are the soft fitness "general soreness" type footballers.

Rubbish. Plenty of blokes still throw themselves head first into a contest...

Name on who isn't a soft footballer.

Jonathon Brown should have played in the 80s
His hardness* is not seen today

Mitch Robinson from my mob is hardly soft...

I'm sure other posters can pick out a player or two that plays in a similar vein for their own team

Agreed. Robinson is pretty hard at it. Selwood from Geelong springs to mind too
