http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/c ... 6268049635COLLINGWOOD has given Andrew Krakouer four weeks away from the club to deal with a range of personal issues.
The Magpies received medical advice that this is the appropriate action but have stressed it was not a football-related issue and they would re-assess Krakouer in a month's time.
Good work by Collingwood to look after one of their players.

Oh god, we'll probably here the commentators bleating on even more about how special his story is compared to normal law abiding footballers.

Have to agree with the eye roll here.
Tired of the story. He went to Jail and deserved it.

I could be wrong but I wasn't aware he spent any time in jail let alone 16 months and I don't remember commentators going on and on and on about how any off field law offences were his special story, they gabbled on about his unbelievable footy skills.
I'm not having a go at the player, he served his time, he moved on with his life, Im having a go at the commentators who go on and on and on about how remarkable or special a story it is, give me a break. Lots of criminals play football. I'd rather here about the superior football side, if I wanted to here about crims I'd watch Crime Stoppers.

How many stories did we read about Gary Ablett and his religious conversion?
Journalists 'bleating' about how it had changed his life and made him a better person.
It became part of his amazing story and is still a significant part of it.
Any less different?

Apparently his partner and kids didn't like Melbourne, and packed up and went back to WA. Nothing to do with the previous time in prison.

But when (if) Krakeour comes back it will be "all the more amazing, first his middling career at Richmond, then prison, and after a break out season, he's had family turmoil, and through it all he's come, what a star."

Hardly heard any at all, but I only watched or attended games. Believe me if they'd carried on about his religious conversion I would have been more annoyed than I am about the bleating of Krakour.

Yes, quite a bit different, its more evident and Gary Ablett wasn't a hardened criminal who spent 16 months in jail.
Maybe I've just had to put up with it more than you as I've probably watched the Grand Final a few more times than you have.

Gary Ablett is very lucky not to have spent 16 months or more in jail. It must have been his Christianity that prevented him from heading there.
There were many media stories about Ablett and his Christian conversion. It also features very heavily in his recent photo book, officially sanctioned. You mustn't have read as many Ablett stories as I have over the years.
As for the GF? Not sure what that's got to do with this.
But don't worry, I'm sure there'll be a few Matthew Stokes redemption stories over the years too

Don't want to be called a puppet again, but Stokes had his five minutes, and now he's only talked about for his football. Same with Stevie J from a couple of years ago, or Jay Schultz, Andrew Embley, Dean Brogan, Nick Riewoldt, all who have had off-field issues.
Short time they get praise or scorned, but then it's only about their football.
A full season of Krakeour's cindarella story in 2011 will be followed by yet another round when he comes back this around.

Collingwood and Football sell Newspapers. The Herald-Sun here in Melbourne is more interested in selling papers on football than the real news. I feel Collingwood have done the right thing by a player but the media will make it like his third coming.

Agreed. But the problem is, we don't have the prison space to send them to.

Quite obvious I would have thought.
I'm annoyed about how commentators go on about how special his story is during football games. The Grand Final was a football game a Geelong supporter is more likely to watch over and over than a Collingwood supporter with Andrew Krackour involved and the a commentary (5 in fact) is included with the Blu Ray.
Mind you the K Rock commentary is more bearable than the others in this regard. Channel 10s was the worst but luckily a software install on my pc negated having to listen to them anymore.
Call me crazy but I watch a footy game to see and hear about the footy not about how special a criminal who put a man in a coma is because he can kick a footy and play in a side that cant beat mine.

I always thought commentators are paid to commentate, ie - pass comment.
I agree in some respects though Wedgie, Krakouers "story" is rehashed all too often for mine.

I agree Krakouer's history is brought up a bit too much but this thread proves that it is hard discuss Krakouer without his history coming up, even when it is because we are complaining about it coming it all the time.
