Current membership tallies.
Couldn't find a few of them, but I imagine Collingwood would be leading the way.
Hawthorn has done extremely well with its membership numbers in the past few years.
Adelaide 37,079
Brisbane 12,387
Carlton 28,066
Collingwood ?
Essendon 36,377
Fremantle ?
Geelong 30,162
Gold Coast 8851
GWS 4230
Hawthorn 44,858
Melbourne 22,571
North Melbourne 19,862
Port Adelaide 20,394
Richmond 19,996
St Kilda 20,000 (est)
Sydney 15,478
West Coast 43,997
Western Bulldogs 19,878

Are the 2 Adelaide sides membership figures propped up by SANFL members?
I think that SANFL members are counted as both Crows/Port members

I had to get a 5th membership this year for the Cats as my daughter was 15 so Geelong should be doing alright!

Hopefully those people walking around town in Cats gear that never used to be seen 20 years ago buy some too.

This is my first year as a member.
Pretty pointless for me really as I don't get to see many Lions games.
But wanted to help the club out.
As you can see by their figure, they need all the help they can get!

I think you have to tick a box to what club you support now.

Aren't MCC & Docklands members the same? You nominate a club?

No.
An AFL member can get a club support package which makes them a member of their nominated club, and they get entry rights to their clubs home games but dont get access to as many "neutral" games as other AFL members get.
MCC members are members of the Melbourne Cricket Club and has nothing to do with AFL membership. This is one of the reasons why Melbourne has low membership, because a lot of MCC members barrack for the Dees.
Docklands get access to docklands stadium, I dont think they have an club support option.

Quite an effort considering Geelong has a population of 160,000.
Around a fifth of the population on board for 2012.

Not all Geelong members would live in Geelong, you know?

I realise that
But you'd think the majority of them would.

When Geelong Football Club is doing well the City is doing well. A fair few in Geelong go for the cats. Members living in Melbourne are fairly good to be honest. Geelong is improving on and off the field.
