White was deregistered under the ruling that places a life ban on players suspended for more than 15 games.

Gets a one match match ban and is suspended for life, unbelievable.
SA might not be out of the 70s, but the NT is still stuck in the 50s.

Being announced through the NTAFL has no relevance in this one Wedgie.
It's an AFL ruling for all players within affiliated leagues.
Once a player has accumulated more than 15 matches of suspensions - he' out!
The player does receive written notification when he reaches 10 games or more, that he is close to the maximum, and a reminder of the repurcussions.

The Deregistration Policy was distributed thoughout all AFL affiliated leagues and their clubs middle of last year.

Interesting to note within the policy, it states ex-AFL players have a special clause which counts any suspensions imposed whilst playing AFL would be halved. eg if you get 6 matches whilst playing for Collingwood, but this is only counted as 3 matches towards that player's tally.

Does anyone know how many games Darryl White actually racked up, and when the suspensions were from?

Fair enough, wasn't aware of that, still a ridiculous rule, someone racking up 15 games in 450 games can't play the game but someone racking up 14 games in 15 games can.
Thanks for the info.

Also applies here although the SAAFL limit is actually less than 15 games

He can appeal to play again

Jimmy this is now Australia wide, so applies to SAAFL as well.
But Yes, he can appeal

Our limit is actually stricter than the 15 games meaning that, if he was on 14 games already, he wouldn't have been allowed to play SAAFL unless we agreed.

I just cant remember if ours is 12, 13 or 14 games

seems outrageuos to me.

Wouldn't be bothered about lining up against someone who has numerous abusive language/rough conduct charges but would certainly be bothered about someone who has e.g. "king hit" a kid behind play and for mine, there's a massive difference.

Rules are rules - comply or watch from the sidelines.

He got done for striking not abusing

The NT News reports White's one-match ban for striking Tiwi Bomber Donald Mungatopi took his lifetime suspensions to 16 games

I can understand why they've done it up there though, with some of the unruly players in the NT.
Bit harsh on Darryl though.

Going to sue according to Hook in today's Sunday Mail
This will be interesting
It is an Australia wide rule brought in by the AFL so I assume the AFL will be defending if he does

And it is 12 games here in the SAAFL

Delay on Darryl White appeal

"DARRYL White's illustrious career was put on hold when the AFL Nothern Territory tribunal delayed its decision on his appeal over a lifetime ban last night.

White, 38, presented an application for re-registration alongside a statement from the St Marys Football Club to the tribunal, which will seek the advice from other jurisdictions before handing down a verdict by 5pm Friday.

The triple AFL premiership star and AFLNT Hall of Fame inductee was suspended for one match in Round 11 for striking Tiwi Bomber Donald Mungatopi, taking his NTFL career total to 16 - one more than the national-wide limit - and was automatically de-registered by the league.

A member of the Indigenous Team of the Century, White said his desire hasn't waivered and does not want to be remembered as a de-registered player.

"It's the first one (case) in the Territory and I don't want to be the example either way," White said. "Hopefully everyone agrees I'm not a thug or a threat to anyone."

What thuggish/ threatening acts are you aware of by White. Played over here for Nyah and only recieved positive reviews as far as I am aware.

Did White ever get suspended while playing for Brisbane?
I can't remember any suspensions, certainly not late in his career.
So I hardly think he's a thug.

That kid who got done for assaulting an umpire or whatever it was, why isn't he deregistered? Surely even with the pathetic result from the appeal it would have been more than 15 games suspension.

If you miss many games for abusing someone on the field you are a moron as deserve to get banned.

Played footy myself for 20 years and never been sent off let alone suspended. Admittedly I have done a few things that would get me weeks in the AFL but @ any level lower if you rack up that many weeks you deserve this law to be thrown @ you. There will be people who will defend their own actions on here but in my time I have never seen a bloke get this many games (@ once or accumulated) and not deserve it.
