Collingwood Season 2012

Postby Q. » Wed Oct 26, 2011 1:41 pm

A lot of 'unknowns' to be pondered as Buckley takes over from Malthouse. Tactically, I wonder whether there will be big changes.

Aside from the questions, Buckley seems to have built a solid coaching team around him, despite losing the likes of Neeld and Watters. Eade as coaching director, Ben Hart as defensive coach and now we've signed the legend Robert Harvey as our midfield coach.

As for the player list, still a few delistings to be made, but with Leon Davis virtually gone, Macaffer probably finds himself with a reprieve. I'd expect Brad Dick to retire and for Simon Buckley and John McCarthy to be delisted along with a couple of rookie-listers.

Excited to have Marty Clarke back, who will inevitably fill Davis' role, and am looking forward to seeing the giant Jarrod Witts break into the first 22.

It will be an interesting year for the Pies.

The good thing is that most of the team could probably coach itself.

I changed that because i didn't think that was fair.

I think he will be ultra professional, but i do have issues with how this occurred and i know not all the players where happy that Mick left. I just don't think Bucks has the respect that Mick has and i think its fraught with danger but time will tell.

ditto.

i can see where Eddie was going with the succession plan, didn't want to lose the Golden Child to another club, but i'd be a lot happier heading into 2012 if Mick was still at the helm. i'm not saying Bucks will be a shite coach, but we were onto a good thing, if it aint broke.....

Talk (and just talk) was that it was actually Malthouse's ego getting in the way at the end there. There is talk that some players were not happy Mick was leaving, but at the same time there was talk that some players were happy that he was. I think the players do hold Buckley in high regard and do respect him. He has conducted himself in an ultra-professional manner thus far.

Nevertheless, Malthouse was obviously a great coach and there is something difficult to understand about turfing a great coach for someone who is untried.

I still think Simon Buckley has something to offer, just not enough opptunities for him. Although with Davis going there might be more. Strange move by Davis, although money related I still think Collingwood will be in for a good year.

Highly debatable.
Twice as many matches at your home ground than Geelong and less interstate travel than Geelong.
No home matches at another teams city.
Finals at your home ground too.
Poor Collingwood.
Boo hoo.

I think the interesting thing about Buckley is he won't be able to just continue along with the Malthouse model because people will be asking what was the point in changing coaches. And if his model alters and is not effective enough, people will be asking why he didn't just continue with the Malthouse plan. I think Buckley will have more pressure on him than any debut coach in AFL history. Only a premiership would be viewed as a successful year.

No point trying to bring facts and rational discussion to the fixture debate, always easier for oppositon fans to say we get a free ride full stop! I did like that points chart I hadn't come across it.

I'm looking forward to Bucks taking charge, I'd expect a game plan thats a little more attacking through the corridor, losing Davis is a shame but with Clarke coming back, and the re-signing of Macaffer, I can live with it.

Plenty to ponder over the off season, who plays the 'Leigh Brown' role, if anyone, or will Bucks play 2 genuine ruckman? Will Dawes take it to another level? Can Cloke back up after an amazing season? Ditto for the midfield stars. Will Dids bounce back from a poor year? Bring on 2012!!

Yeah no real surprises there, shame Brad Dick's body couldn't hold up to it, was a lively little player.

I have a feeling they will use Yagmoor to fill his shoes, not so much to be a goalsneak, but to provide important forward defensive pressure.
