What are the visions of grand final day that you will never forget?

Mine is Chocco Williams with his tie to the crowd in the 'choking' fashion.

That moment will live with me forever.

The final siren sounding in the 2004 granny with chad cornes and the fans. Also when chocco and tredders accepted the cup. Spine tingling stuff.

Some other moments:

- Crawford immediately after the siren went and when he accepted his medal.
- Paul Roos' acceptance speech after the 05 gf
- Billy Brownless in tears moments before the 07 gf was due to end
- Alistair Lynch holding the footy in jubilation when the final siren sounded in the 01 granny.

Yes mine all revolve around celebratory moments, but these reactions are what makes our game what it is

As already mentioned, the Chocco choking moment (wish he slipped and did us all a favour ;) ) and Bondy's celebration.

Ill also always remember Andrew Mcleod accepting his Norm Smith, totally humbled by the honour and experience of the day.

Scarlett's soccer in the middle of the ground that would eventually set up Chappy for the match winner!

the first essendon premiership in the 80s....was it 84? when they played hawthorn and smashed them? There was a massive brawl between the players....was great

gavin wanganeens run from the back lines to the forward lines in the 93 essendon premiership.

1999 GF, only cause its the only one ive been to, also got to hold the cup a couple of hours after the game.

1996 I remember clearly cause of the late great Ron Casey tearing up before the siren when he realised the Roos were going to win the gold cup. Couldnt find a picture of it but this was a painting done afterwards -

Image

Apart from these I remember the Brisbane 01,02,03 GF's the most, I still love how that team played, they are still the best there ever was IMO

What are the visions of grand final day that I will never forget?

From St Kilda GF’s: (mostly sour)

1997- Jarman snapping his fifth of the final term. How the ball ended up in his hands I’ll never know. Images of Harvs and Winmar in particular after the game will stay with me for a long time.
2009- The Scarlett “toe poke” and Andrew “Usually a dead eyed dick” McQualter’s miss from top of goal square in the second term. Summed up our kicking for goal that day..
2010- Goooooddddard. It felt as though the premiership was ours to lose at that point. Obviously a bitter sweet memory now…
2010- Jolly turning to the crowd and giving a mighty fist pump near where I was standing as the siren sounded. Complete ecstasy on his behalf.

Others- (more positive)
1992- Peter Matera’s dashes down the wing.
1995- Williams running riot and kicking his 5th for the day.
1998- Duck Carey hitting the post from a few metres out and North’s inability to nail a goal all day.
2001- Kevin Murray in the stands wearing an old Fitzroy scarf as the Lions upset the bombers.
2002- Aker’s crumbing goal to win it.
2004- Choco obviously. Plus the Wakelin/Lynch battle.
2005- Close yet boring game highlighted by Barry’s mark.
2008- Croad limping around after the game and getting mugged by mates.
SAFC- 60 years...
StKFC- 58 years..

Leon Baker, Paul Weston & their Essendon teammates turning it on & smashing Hawthorn in the 4th quarter in '84..

The Blues doing it for Mots in '87..

The 1989 GF as a whole, but particularly Brereton getting cleaned up by Yeates at the first bounce and GAblett Snr's 9 goal effort & subsequent Normie..

Terry Daniher polaxing Gavin Brown in '90 & sparking an all-in just before half-time..

Michael Long's run & goal in '93, with a diving Silvagni claiming he touched it..

Of course, 2004 was a glorious day, and one I'll remember fondly forever. 8)

Grand Final Memories

1989 - Yabbbbbbleetttt YES Siren NO!!
1992 - Shattered. Five goals up and sunk by Peter Matera at his best.
1994 - Massive mark by Brownless had my hopes but by the end it was proven that North should have probably been there.
1995 - Absolutely gutted. We should have done way better in this match.
2007 - Otto's chasedown, Tredders as Chappy's stepladder, a WEG from Booney..MASSIVE.
2008 - Still can't believe we lost this but not a choke, Hawthorn were pretty darn good. Well coached on the day.
2009 - Bloody hell! Scarlo's toepoke, Hawkins real goal, Maxy Rooke, Maxy Rooke MAXY ROOKE!
2011 -???

Not a bad run that. Eight Grannies in 23 seasons. Be nice to win three rather than just two however. Toey as today.

regards,

Was there in 2004 & the moment I remember most is Hardwick getting Aker to snap (I was at the other end to the fight)
Was also there in 2007, remember trying to wipe it from my memory...

Other memories
2008 Stuart Dew in the third... He didn't run more than 100m for the quarter but unbelievable footy smarts get getting him the ball & goals
2005 Leo Barry mark
2009 Raph Clarke getting dominated in the last

When 83, 84, 85, 85, 87, 88, or 91??

In 89 he didn't go off he just went down to the forward pocket with a trainer and the DOC and a minute later took a mark and snagged a sausage...

Best GF ever.

However the best GF moment/play HAS to be, Donovan punching disciplined from behind, crumbed by Bone who pumps it long to the SW flank at Footy Park, Tony Hall with Riley on his clacker, takes a mark and as he falls to the ground hits Maxy Maynard with a 15 m lateral handball to his right. Maxy spears a pass to Garts, but before Garts gets it Symo without breaking stridng plucks out of the air steadies and Goalski. 15 min mark of the 2nd qtr of the '86 GF, it is all over....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!
