HAWTHORN 8.1 17.4 23.6 31.11 (197)
PORT ADELAIDE 0.2 2.2 5.2 5.2 (32)
Goals: Hawthorn: L Franklin 8, C Rioli 6, I Smith 2, J Lewis 2, L Breust 2, S Mitchell 2, B Sewell, B Whitecross, C Bateman, D Hale, G Birchall, L Hodge, L Shiels, M Bailey, M Suckling. Port Adelaide: C Hitchcock, D Rodan, J Butcher, J Schulz, M Banner.
Best: Hawthorn: L Franklin, C Rioli, S Mitchell, J Lewis, M Suckling, L Shiels, I Smith, G Birchall.
Port Adelaide: D Cassisi, J Butcher, R Gray, T Jonas.
Injuries: Hawthorn: B Sewell (back). Port Adelaide: T Boak (back).
Reports: Nil.On the positive for Port, Butcher looks the goods and its probably fair enough to ask why his opportunity wasnt given earlier in the season.
On the negative its all simply bad for the Power any way you try and slice it. A performance way under what the Gold Coast have put on and the GC are far better placed to move forward up the ladder with their various concessions and trading options.
Far to many players in the Power that need to be cut from the list. Malcolm Blight went to Woodville and cut some massive number of players from their list, think Port are facing the same action for this club to become competitive at this level of footy.
As for the Hawks they looked amazing today and will give Geelong and Collingwood a good run in the finals, just how much better can Buddy Franklin get!

I enjoyed the game. It makes up for my evening of hell at Footy Park back in 2005 when Port defeated the Hawks by 117.

I thought Butcher was injured earlier in the season, and that's the reason for the late debut.

ya know what, the power players should just get on the piss for the week and play carefree. perhaps they might get within 50 at 1/2 time and if they do, free piss for everyone? may get a few loyal drunks on board? lets face it, port are ****** up and an embarrasment to the sanfl brand/just fold , u are shit, and an also ran

He played the first 8 games for Port and then missed the next 5.

As much as there was a lack of midfield pressure Carlile, Salter, Chaplin and Trengove were terrible and not interested today.
After watching that Trengove is a certainty to be going at the end of the year.

How did Tommy Jonas go? I noticed he's named 4th best, but wasn't sure if that was an "encouragement award" type of thing?

To be honest Butcher was very very lucky to get a game with the Power as his form has been very very average for the Magpies in the SANFL.

Port is at its lowest ebb, but sometimes things are at their darkest just before the dawn. Matty has a 3 year contract, and he hasnt taken the easy option and played all the senior blokes and finished 10th. He has bitten the bullet, which is courageous. Must get Dean Bailey and Phil Walsh back at the club. They have an average list with rock bottom confidence which is a perfect storm for blowouts. Too many blokes playing like dead men walking. Butcher and Jonas were encouraging. Unfortunately some of the senior blokes confidence is shattered. Salopek, Surjan to name a couple.

I also reckon Matty would be hoping for a bottom 3 finish next year for the 2012 super draft. A priority and 2 early picks would be very handy. With free agency its the only way to go. Where is the game plan, there is one. but when your down by 20 goals that tends to go out the window, with any team, not just Port. He's banking on the idea that free agents wont want to leave Port in 2- 3 years

I know there's a lot of experts out there with the answers to Port's problem, and I'm not suggesting this is the key issue .. But I would ask Power fans whether a degree of their current onfield problem has come about from a cheapening of the guernsey - IE, in order to get a look at their list and players (potentially) of the future, they seem to have gifted some players with games rather than have them in such form that they command selection?
