Did the 1970 Grand Final not occur after all? That can only explain the absence of Alex Jesaulenko's mark.

Any mark, like Walker and Moorcrofts that are just one bloke standing on one blokes shoulders pale into insignificance compared to the pack marks of Burton and Karkouer to name a few from recent times.

If Walkers is top 3 of all time I'll eat the ball he marked.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

I've often felt that Modra's best mark wasn't the one against North Melbourne in 93.

I'd have v Collingwood (Vic Park 93), v Richmond (F/Park 97) and v Bris (Gabba, dunno the year) ahead of it

Was thinking the same thing JK.

The NM one seems to have been elevated, but I put his mark of Richard Champion as better.

Brett Burton's was great, and probably his best. But, an underrated one of his was over Andrew Wills along the wing at Freo where he basically jumped OVER him - that was awesome.

From what I can remember of the marks on the list, none of them include the JB style running back with the flight - about to get crunched grabs that really only a select few can ever pull off*.

There's nothing like a big high mark where someone really crashes the pack, and it looks like they had no business even getting the ball.

Tarrant, James Cook etc - they were great.
I liked Winston Abraham's mark in Canberra too.

I think Krakouer's mark this year was over-rated, but was a really good mark.

Agreed on Walker.
Although with Moorcroft, I don't think he just stood on a player's shoulder, he actually had to readjust his movement and go backwards with the flight. That makes it pretty good.

Pack marks are the best. Hated Burton, but loved that mark.
How Walker's can be discussed ahead of Krakouer's this year, I'm not sure.

Agree with you booney.

Since I've seen walkers mark, I think it is severly overrated. To be mentioned with the best of all time is laughable IMO

Agree Diss, Tarrant's is one of my favourites.

I think the Modra one gets so much publicity because it was at a pretty crucial time of the game IIRC.

I don't think Moorcroft readjusted... he just stretched - and the way he was on his back just moved him that way. Still a good mark.

Walker and Krakouer are both as good as each other - but not brilliant.

I think some marks over time have suffered from the footage of them. The worst thing for a mark is not being able to see the ground when they take the ball. Walker's mark, whilst really really good, suffered for this too.

Watch Burton's mark again on YouTube a few months back when I was schooling up an American mate on the game. Still gave me goosebumps. Definitely the best mark I have seen in my lifetime.

Surely the mark of the 20th century should be in it?

Or are the requirements they have to hang onto it and not just be "paid"? ;)

Agreed - that should surely have given consideration to Nick Riewoldt's against Sydney at the SCG some years back.

Brown's and Riewoldt's are the best I've seen. Nothing better or more courageous than running back with the flight like that.
Moorcroft (even though I hate the little ginger bugger) would be 3rd for me. Great mark for a little fella.

Agreed, the running back is great - it just isn't considered as "spectacular" when it comes to the best grabs of all time. Should be though.

I liked Moorcroft's, but I'm not as enamored with it as others.

I guess it's like watching a midget win the midget high jump.

Always depends on what criteria people use for these .. Goddard's grab in last years Granny, whilst less spectacular than those bandied about on this topic, had the elements of crucial moment, on the biggest stage etc.

Not suggesting it should appear in a top 10 list, but just making the point that we all rate different aspects.

Burton took a massive hanger in front of me just out from the goal square at Footy Park years ago against Essendon - and it was disallowed :(
