The FIXture - Collingwood

Has everyone seen this e-mail doing the rounds? I haven't checked to see if it is 100% right but if it is...JOKE

This was forwarded to me - and by now it's about 5 generations of forwarding from its originator. But it's worth considering. I'm thinking Collingwood fans would think it made up, but for everyone else I'm sure you'll be jealous of Collingwood's draw of late.
Dear All
Look at how the AFL have gone out of their way to ensure that Collingwood have a dream run so that they finish top four. Eddie McGuire claimed the Brisbane Lions got salary cap concessions to win their premierships, however in the history of the VFL / AFL has any side has had a draw like Collingwood.
Read the following and pass it onto your friends. It makes you lose faith in the way the AFL is heading when you realise the special treatment that Collingwood receive.
Question: Including this Queens Birthday Monday, of the last 22 games played by Collingwood (including four finals matches) how many games have they played at the MCG.
Answer: They have played 19 of their last 22 games at the MCG, the other 3 were played at Etihad Stadium. They have also had 1 Bye.
Question: When was the last time Collingwood played a match interstate.
Answer: It was the 9th July 2010, eleven months ago. In round 15 of 2010 they played Port Adelaide in Adelaide. Their next interstate match is against Sydney in Round 14 on the 25 June 2011, which is 352 days after the last interstate match they played.
Question: Including this Queens Birthday Monday , of the last 18 Home and Away matches played by Collingwood (the other 4 were finals), how many times has their opponent come off an interstate match the week before
Answer: Incredibly in 11 of Collingwood’s last 18 Home and Away games the side they have played had an interstate match the week before. On top of this, in Round 1 of 2011 they played Port Adelaide at Etihad Stadium, who had to travel from Adelaide. So in 67% of their last 18 Home and Away games, their opponent had to travel the week before or had to travel that week.
Round Collingwood’s Where the Opponent
Opponent played the week before
16 in 2010 St Kilda Brisbane
17 in 2010 Richmond MCG
18 in 2010 Carlton Perth
19 in 2010 Geelong Sydney
20 in 2010 Essendon MCG
21 in 2010 Adelaide Crows Brisbane
22 in 2010 Hawthorn Launceston
1 in 2011 Port Adelaide Adelaide
2 in 2011 North Melbourne Perth
3 in 2011 Carlton Brisbane
4 in 2011 Richmond MCG
5 in 2011 Essendon MCG
6 in 2011 Western Bulldogs Perth
7 in 2011 Had the Bye
8 in 2011 Geelong Skilled Stadium
9 in 2011 Adelaide Adelaide
10 in 2011 West Coast Eagles Perth
11 in 2011 St Kilda Perth
12 in 2011 Melbourne MCG

Question: Who do Collingwood play in round 13 of 2011, the week before their first interstate match in nearly 12 months. (This match will be played at ANZ Stadium in Sydney, where Collingwood have a very good record)
Answer: They have the Bye, while Sydney their opponent for Round 14 have to travel to Melbourne to play Carlton on a Sunday before fronting up against Collingwood the following Saturday.
Question: Since Round 16 of 2010, up to Round to 13 of 2011, how many times has your club had to play a game interstate.
Answer Melbourne Based Club Games Played Interstate
Collingwood None
Carlton Five
Essendon Three
Geelong Five
Hawthorn Nine (Four in Launceston)
Melbourne Five
North Melbourne Five
Richmond Three
St Kilda Four
Western Bulldogs Six

Imagine if your club got the dream run that Collingwood receive. You would expect to make the finals, finish top four and have a decent shot at winning the premiership.
So are Collingwood that good or have the AFL created the situation where they practically hand them over the premiership.

Asking much D14? The pies out at skilled? the pies out at launceston? 2 trips to adelaide, sydney, perth and brisbane?

They would be lucky to total these trips in 5 seasons! Eddie would have a coronary

Not to mention the gate takings, stadium deals and tv rights the AFL would lose with these games not being at the G......Andy D cant have that. Mate, the average footy fan needs to learn: decisions aren't based upon fairness in the draw, what the fans want, what is good for the game, its about how much money it would make. Unfortunately the pies benefit largely from the arrangements which matter most surrounding the afl corporates...the almighty dollar.

That is a silly statement. Geelong and Collingwood are that far above any other side in the comp. If you think the draw makes that big a difference then you have marbles for brains

Not asking anymore than what the teams playing outside of Melbourne have to deal with every year. I know it would never happen, But I think for fairness and the integrity of the draw it would be great if this was to happen for at least 1 year. It also might show that Collingwood don't actually run the AFL.

And to be honest it shouldn't matter what Eddie has to say.

is there any other sporting competition in the world that structures the fixture to suit TV ratings? F1 is the only sport I can think of.

Pies at Skilled? It would cost our club a fortune. Therin lies the problem.

Don't get me wrong D, I agree wholeheartedly, but like I said, who gives a stuff what we want and what is fair, after all we are the people that pay our memberships / match day tickets.....

Serious question though, how long has it been since collingwood have been out to skilled stadium / kardinia park?

1999. One of the worst games ever. For some reaso Fox showed it a couple of months ago. May the least hopeless team win. It was us BTW, our first win in ten matches (YAY go Ayresy!) against coaching genius Tony Shaw. Absolute Barry Crocker.

I was taking it to the extreme, my initial thoughts just included the non Victorian teams.

Ughhhh, I was at Princes Park that day, watching Justin Murphy tear up the Crows with my GF.
It was a long weekend here and we decided to go to Ballarat, then realised there was a train to Melbourne we could catch and go to the footy.
Ended up sitting in the Heatley Stand next to besuited Blues people, including Ang and Fraser Brown.
Collingwood were up all day, I reckon, and the scores kept coming through with the Blues faithful booing every time. Then came the Cats and a big cheer when the final result was announced.
I was wearing a Pies scarfe too...reckon I copped some flack?

last year everybody complained that Collingwood didn't have to leave Melbourne in the srcond half of the year, so this year they change it so the Pies don't leave in the first half of the year, therefore making the "12 months of no travel" argument a waste of breath, because giving the people what they want is what caused this.

why is it now that Collingwood have a good list and are successful that people are starting to put this much effort into talking about them? why not 6 years ago when they were winning wooden spoons?

You're right. The whole thread is a waste of breath because it will remain the Collingwood Football League. Why haven't you been winning more premierships?

There is no doubt banger that the pies have a gun list, and IMO would make a GF even if they had to travel interstate every round.....why this argument wasnt raised before hand is the same for every club, if your getting favoured but still suck nobody cares.

The pies get it easy and have done for a long time. I guess it gripes me because my club travels round the nation (yes granted some games we sell which i am perfectly happy with) and we watch the pies round up at the G time and time again.
