Yeah and?

Same reason why players seem to go one way and not the other. Once they get a taste of Melbourne they wont be coming back.

Funny stuff, just a bit of banter perhaps trying to get a bit of weight behind State Of Origin

Its one thing to be patriotic, its another thing to admit that SA is the highest taxing state in Australia with ageing infrastructure and various companies closing or moving interstate or off shore. Sometimes perhaps it can hurt because its actually the truth.

Why Melbourne? I detest the place.

Ironic that Caro said 'Adelaide lacked sex appeal', that's coming from probably the ugliest looking woman on TV.

Melbourne is great, even if your not a football fan. BT is right once again.

Melbourne is the football capital of the world and can fully understand why players want to go there

Yeah, but us for us plebs who don't play football, I'll settle for Adelaide thanks. Don't get me wrong, love going to Melbourne for an annual footy trip but, couldn't live there.

Agree , for a young person growing up Melbourne would be more appealing that adelaide ....plenty to do and things on all the time. Adelaide is definitely not as exciting than Melbourne ....

I dont find this to be true, alot of people i know who are between 18-25 love to head to melbourne for a weekend but wouldnt want to live there. I always was under the impression that what you have stated is true, but in recent times has changed.

Adelaide is for "homebodies" IMHO .. A good slow paced place to raise kids and have strong ties with family and friends - For younger people looking for things to do, Melbourne dumps on Adelaide.

Both states should then appeal to different people for different reasons .. But I can understand the allure of Melbourne for younger people (there's also less of the "fish bowl" aspect a player would have to deal with in Adelaide) both in terms of things to do and additional $ making opportunities.

I lived in Melbourne for 10 years and was happy to return to Adelaide when I could.
Unless you are CBD or inner suburb based it takes too long to get anywhere in Melbourne.
I used to occasionally go to dinner functions in Richmond, Albert Pk, or Chapel St, but pubs and clubs don't attract me.

Here, I have a decent quality home and can get anywhere I want to go easily and reasonably quickly.
In Melbourne - unless you are very wealthy - you get one or the other.

Must have been a while ago that you lived there. With all the new freeways, you can travel 30km's in 25 mins right into the heart of the city in peak hour. Can't do that here.

January 1999 to March 2009, but I lived most of it in the Dandenong Ranges and had to travel for a while to get to any Freeways.
Also the CBD itself was rarely my target destination - below are samples of my experience.

I worked in Boronia and Bayswater North - 40 minutes to Warrigal Rd via Burwood Highway, or Box Hill Hospital via Canterbury Rd.
It was also 75 minutes to meetings in Parkville via Canterbury Rd, and about 50 minutes to Enoteca Restaurant in Church St, Richmond.
Add 20 minutes extra to get home to Olinda afterwards..

That was all outside peak hours of course.

Life was a bit easier the first year, renting in Malvern near Glenferrie Rd - but $600 a week rent.

In theory yes, but in reality Melbourne's freeways are "carparks" most peak hours.
