The Chris Judd 'they got off light' award

This is an award to recognise the lucky bastards out there who like Chris Judd have walked away thinking 'that could have been a lot worse!'

The 2011 nominees for the Chris Judd 'they got off light' award are

- Angus Monfries for hardly copping any stick after his pathetic dive cost Jordan Lewis matches
- Joel Corey for getting off scott free after doing a sling tackle when everyone in the league has been going for weeks
- The Collingwood football club for not having to leave Victoria until Round 19
- Heath Shaw for being allowed to play finals football this year. What were the odds on that?
- Justin Sherman for only copping four games for being a racist arsehole
- Travis Varcoe for not been slagged mercilessly after the biggest squib I've seen on a footy field for many in a year in a match where Jonathon Brown showed what real courage is

I vote for Sherman. He got off very light for mine.

regards,

REB

I did notice the Varcoe squib REB, not quite a Garlett but pretty close :)

Geelong Football Club in yesterday's game. Gifted soft free kicks that cost Brissy goals when the game was in the balance. (Especially two holding the ball calls against them)
Both gun Lion forwards knocking themselves out of the contest.

Geelong were lucky to win and deserved to lose. Terrible performance. J-Pods eight goals were also underwhelming.

Agreed. Four weeks and still able to play VFL. Rubbish.

My response to viewing that would not escape the swear filter. I went right off. I had to put my remote back together! GRRR. **** of a game all round really. We stank up the joint.

On this, there is courage and then there's madness.

Jonathon Brown has gone beyond courageous. He has lost the plot.

His wife must be absolutely hating him for the way he recklessly throws his body into contests like that!
Gutsy stuff and I wouldn't expect anything less from the big fella.
I blame Mitch Clark for getting his elbow in the way!

He injured Mitch Clark as well! Probably cost your boys the game in the end.
It was never his ball to go for. Clark would have clunked it!

Oh well. If Browny didn't do stuff like that he wouldn't be one of the best CHFs of all time.
Keep doing it I say! Wish he'd done that last year and hit Justin Sherman instead!

Unless it's your dreamteam!

Great to watch - Hope to see him back to his best next year

I did notice this. I thought there was a penalty for players who 'over-react' these days. Is this correct, or is it just something that's been talked about? If it is a rule, then why does Monfries not have a case to answer?

Can't get Lewis' 2 games back, so I'm not interested in that. Just want clarification of the rule.

I reckon Jordie gets a free hit next time they play the Bombers. That would be great.

Monfries dives in every tackle and as long as he's regularly being rewarded with "In The Back" free kicks I guess there's nothing to dissuade him from doing so.

One - can't suspend Lewis for two matches and monfries for staging, it's one or the other!
Two - you can only be found guilty of staging if there is no contact made. Monfries clearly made contact with Lewis, even though it was very minimal

Said it in the live thread. Brown isn't courageous, he is insane.

watching the replay, it looks as though Mitch Clark lowered his eyes, and got the elbow out to protect himself from the Geelong player in front, and Browny ran straight into that.
