Brownlow Medal 2011

Postby Turbo » Tue Jun 21, 2011 9:41 pm

Long way to go but...

Been talking to a few mates about this so thought I would open up a discussion about it.

Who do you think at mid season would be in the lead, and who is your early prediction to take it out?

The umpires already engraved Judds name on it before the season started.
I reckon Murphy has had a better season but Judd will get more votes

Interestingly I rerckon after the first 8 rounds Judd will have over 15 points, however in the last few rounds Murphy has definately been in better form.
Judd is a $3.75 favourite, Murphy is second at $5.75. Will therefore steal votes from each other so perhaps a Pendlebury may win. Hope not.

Judd.
I heard on some show them talkin about how they give votes etc and how serious the umpires take it
And the umpires said generally if blues win it's coz Judd played well so that's why he gets so many votes.
Plus all the other leading contenders gettin injured or suspended help

Jobe Watson until he went missing with injury... Will have polled well early, and if he gets back to his best late, he could do enough...

Chris Judd... How can you not say him? Seriously, he's a handy player...

Gary Ablett... Will attract votes... You cannot get 30-something possessions and kick a goal or two in a side that's losing every week and NOT get noticed... I made a fatal call a few years ago- I backed Fev to finish top three because of his efforts in a losing side, but I am more confident here...

Dean Cox... The new brigade of Eagles mids seem to be doing alright, and LeCras and Kennedy can finish their work... But it starts with the big guy... And he gets a midfielder like possession count, takes a big mark, can kick a goal... He's been a gun this year...

And left field selection...:

Drew Petrie... Another big guy, it's hard not to be noticed, and gee whiz, he's played a very good, and very consistent, brand of football this year... Mightn't win it, but will get enough votes for people to take notice...

In my defence, I have all but guaranteed none of those five will win a thing, as I have the kiss of death with this stuff.

And theres the point. Very hard for ruckman to score big. He has Kennedy, lecras, hurn, Kerr, priddis, embley who have all had best ons. Cox won't get 10 votes!

I wouldn't completely discount him. Recognising that some seasons have been high on stats for him, not sure that Embley, for one, will take too many. Ditto Kennedy (will get three for the ten goal haul, but are there many more?). Shannon Hurn not a noted votegetter either, and LeCras has missed a fair few.

Kerr might be the one that will surprise here, and we know he is a recognised votegetter in teams that are better than this lineup.

Ablett will have to poll well for GC, without a doubt, would already be on 8+ votes at least.

Suspect Judd has been even better this year, but also wonder if the umpires will do a subconscious "correction" this year and mark him more harshly this time around.

Goodes at $9-12 for a place? ( Top 3 finish )

Ablett at $21-26 to win? ( Will get loads of 1's and 2's? )
