Noticed the AFC website running a fair few stories this week about the formation of the club, the first game etc. and thought we should have a thread going on the topic also.

Anyone care to share their recollections on the beginnings of the club and the first game?

Their fondest memories from 20 years supporting?

Fire away. :D

I have the first game on VCR. Does anyone know where a DVD can be bought of this game?

My earliest memory of watching a Crows game would be the 1993 prelims - specifically:

a) Justin Maddern loaping down the wing with only Rehn to give chase.

b) Jarman missing a shot from the goalsquare before half time against the Dons that would've just about iced the game.

My fondest memory is would have to be the 1997 prelim against the Dogs. Was my 17th birthday and what a present it was! :D

I have 'First Blood' (the first game) on VHS (it's buried somewhere at Dad's), but I don't think First Blood has made it onto DVD.

Dad and my uncles went to the first game as Dad thought I was too young to go (being a mobile 7 year old at the time I could understand) - it was the same reason why I didn't make the trek to Waverley in 1994 for the Fosters Cup final yet Dad and the uncles went, so the first game I went to was against the Brisbane Bears later in the season. Interestingly, when I got my season ticket in 1997, the first game I went to as a season ticket holder was against the Brisbane Lions!

There have been many 'exciting moments' but as above I remember this game well !!

'A Dad' was being so negative (he'd probably say passionate) - giving me the total sh!ts - when finally I had had enough of his 'carry on' .... I departed the loungeroom and went and found my own TV to watch the remaining 5 minutes of the game...

But then....

OMG - how exciting the ending - that it was like a scene from a movie with 'A Dad' and 'A Mum' running from seperate locations meeting in the hall way with massive hug/jumping around and excitement !!

Bad, bad, bad memory is the 1993 prelim against Essendon:

We were living at Ayers Rock at the time - and my best friends husband was a mad as Essendon supporter.

We decided to have a 'crows' party/bbq with all us/fellow Adelaidians and watch the game.
At half time when I went outside (as we all lived in the same complex) my friends husband was going down the street for 'refreshments'
I decided this was a great time to 'give it to him' - (crows what 7 goals in front or something rediculous !!)
Something I forever regretted doing

That happened in our house too.

Funniest thing is that my best mate was the one doing the most vigorous hugging - and now he's a die hard Port fan (supported the Crows in the AFL while Port didn't exist).

I still give him plenty for that today.

Yep - my dad was a crows member from day one - till Port Power came along - then he dumped the crows.
And now when refering to anything crows to me says 'Your mob' :?

Rod Jameison kicking a goal after the siren to beat Fitzroy! We were right up the back and didn't even hear the siren!

McLeods grubber from the pocket in the rain against the Hawks. We looked toast that night and the Champ just turned it on, thats when my man crush on the number 23 started!

Would have to say CH, that the Jamo goal would have to be one of my favourite memories!

I was at the first game 20 years ago, can't believe it's been that long!!

Guy who owned my local Deli had 2 members tickets and told his wife she had to work in the shop and asked me to go with him.

The atmosphere was electric. At half time we went to the bar and a Hawthorn supporter said he couldn't believe how fanatic we South Aussies were about footy.

I was at the first game. It was the most electric atmosphere of any game I have been to. I remember standing up the whole game which means everyone around us was standing up. I reckon a lot of us were standing on the seats by the end. It's not comparable at all to today's crowds but back then it was all new for us. Even by later that same season the crowds had calmed down a lot. I sat down for every other game I went to.

That first year I went to Haw round 1, Melbourne, Footscray and West Coast.

Jamo v Scott Cummings in the bout of the century wasnt too bad either. So many punches thrown, so little landed

one of my favourite games has to been the 2002 semi final against Melbourne at the MCG.

1. up by 40 at quarter time
2. down by 29 late in 3rd quarter completely given up
3. storm home in the last quarter to win by 12.

Ditto - along with Eddie Hockings mark

Just saw this thread and really sorry I couldn't get to the game tonight as game 1 brings back ALOT of memories for me.

I was in yr 12 at the time and a friend and I spent our spare period in the afternoon making a banner which anyone who was at that game would have seen

"OUR JARMAN IS BETTER THAN YOURS" It gets a berth in First Blood and got a mention in the Record the next week.

Anyhoo, I went straight to the ground from School and sat next to Eddie Hocking on the bus on the way there. ;) or someone who looked a HELL of a lotlike him anyway. I really should ask him how he got to the ground that day next time I see him

Went to the gate and handed them the Season pass I'd bought when they released them ( Iwas member no 181. I still have the season pass) and had my pick of the seats as there was no allocated seating then, but chose to sit in section X right in the front row and hung above said banner over the side of the fence. In hindsight it seemed like a pretty odd place to sit but the view I got of Dermie knocking out Bones was first clas.

Cheer squad was very impressed with my banner so they gave me a crows bandana. Great game, gold memories, good times

PS: Still have the banner too - and If I was there tonight I'd be holding it up somehow
