Team for R1

Postby NFC » Fri Feb 11, 2011 2:52 pm

Might change after tonight even, but as of right now, here is my best 21 (22)...:

FB: Johncock, Rutten, Stevens
CHB: Petrenko, Davis, van Berlo
C: Mackay, Vince, Douglas
CHF: Knights, Henderson, Porplyzia
FF: Callinan, Tippett, Walker
1R: Jacobs, Dangerfield, Thompson
INT: Jaensch, Doughty, Tambling (Sloane)

EMG: Reilly, Symes, Otten

* It's probably not entirely realistic, because Reilly and Symes will probably be in, at the expense of maybe Petrenko and one of Callinan/Jaensch.

* Dangerfield needs to start spending less time up forward, and more in the midfield. Ditto Porps. Our biggest weakness is our midfield, so lets start getting potential guns in there and giving them time to settle.

* Forward line looks incredibly dangerous, and if they're all fit, we should be averaging at the very least 15 goals a week.

Could well see Henderson be the sub, powerful and tallish with running ability

I think Hendo is a key to our chances this year. The guy could be anything with his height, speed and endurance combo. Look at that four week purple patch last year:

19.5 possessions/game
8 goals
6.5 marks

I'd actually like to see him on a wing.

NFC this is a selfish question from the point of view of my SuperCoach team but also for curiosty sake - why don't you see Otten as best 22?

I have seen his name on the outer of a few predicted round 1 teams

IMO he's been out of the game for 18 months, will take time for a young still relatively experienced guy to get back to that high level he was at in 2009. Also craigy likes giving players a chance to defend their possy and wont just hand it over to someone like otten

I'd agree with the sentiments over Otten. I expect he'll get into the first 22 at some point in the season, but not enough footy for over a long time to slot into the round 1 side.

Could be a good sub option though. I'm expecting the sub to be a midfield ready player with some versatility to play as a taller option if needed. Most injuries are to midfielders, while talls can usually be juggled around. Otten could go back to play as a third tall defender. Or if a key tall up forward goes down send Stevens up there and Otten go down back.

I doubt Henderson would be a good sub simply because he can really only play up forward.

Team looks good and like the typical supporter I am i very excited.

Dangerfield - full time onballer
Reilly - no 1 run with player
Patrenko - sweeper
Tambling - still not sold seems sloppy
Henderson - CHF looks good
Walker - not a key position

Might have to find a spot for McKernan, couple of good strong clunkers last night.

Liked Brodie Smith, looks like a handy pick up. I know Port are seething we took him before they could get him.

Poor old Myke Cook, bit of a ball magnet, but gets caught alot and butchers it most times. Can only see him getting a game if we cop alot of injuries.

Encouraged by the performance in the second game, not real happy with the goal kicking in the first game. Unlike Rucci in todays rag, I won't be writing Port of after 80 minutes of footy and I refuse to get too excited by Adelaide's performance.

i would have McKernan in b4 Taylor, dont see wots so good about Taylor, have watched Symes a bit and the less he holds the ball better, one of those players that can cough up the ball easy, not good under pressure.

isnt Callinan only on the rookie list at the moment so he cant play unless someone is put on long term injury list.

It's Callinan's spot to lose. Wingnut will be a crowd favourite. ;)

So did Jacobs do enough to show he is potentially the new Number 1 for the club? I thought his work in the Port game was great (although it was against a very young ruck combo). Gave our midfielders first use of the ball.
Should be interesting over the next couple of weeks to see what Craigy does.

Well after watching some of the performances on friday night i have NFI of who will line up where. There is a good situation forming at AFC, Who plays and who misses out?

from froday nights game:

Petrenko showed improvement
Martin started where he left off last year
Smith showed he is one for the future
McKernan put his hand up (not sold just yet)
Walker presented well, marked well, tackled well and had he kicked straight would have been one of the BOG
Davis - Bock Who? ;)
Dangerfield can and will take his game to th next level this year
Its Callinans spot to loose
Otten is in the best AFC team
Tambling not in the best AFC team atm
Van Berlo is going to be a great leader of the AFC. Attack on the footy and work rate were great as alwsya and he set the standard IMO

Will Vince and McKay be ready for round 1?

Totally agree great summary.

I thought Patrenko was really good.
Van Berlo goal was good and I'm starting to get sold on captaincy.
Danger has such great pace from scratch - needs to be on the ball
Tambling looked very average.
Callinan will have a great year i reckon.

Martin started where he left off last year - the kid is going to be amazing
Smith showed he is one for the future - loved the left foot snap goal. will be a star i think, knows where to be and when
McKernan put his hand up (not sold just yet)
Walker presented well, marked well, tackled well and had he kicked straight would have been one of the BOG - was good to see him chase outside of the forward 50
Davis - Bock Who? ;)
Dangerfield can and will take his game to th next level this year - in for an AA season?
Its Callinans spot to loose
Otten is in the best AFC team
Tambling not in the best AFC team atm - if he can find more of the ball he will be in the best AFC team week in week out
Van Berlo is going to be a great leader of the AFC. Attack on the footy and work rate were great as alwsya and he set the standard IMO
Jacobs was good in the ruck. as i mentioned earlier, gave our midfielders first touch of the pill.

Will Vince and McKay be ready for round 1?

Also Gunston showed a bit more of a glimpse of what he can do.

Gunston has some James Hird about him. Almost key position height but with some midfield sense and skills. Not suggesting he's in that class of player, but just seems to be a similar style player.
