As opposed to the Power sub-forum, supporters of ANY club can discuss the Power here.

Matthew Lobbe has dislocated his shoulder at training, so port fans will get their first look at jarrad redden and daniel bass ahead of friday nights nab cup opener against the crows and dees.

To be honest i can see the Power finishing 8-12.
I just think they lack a bit of depth and quality around the ground and will need a good run with injuries to key players such as Salapek, Boak, Hartlett and Gray who always seem to be injured. If Brogan goes down they are in strife and with Rodan and Ebert coming back from Knee reco's they are a bit unknown on how they will return.

Brogan needs to play no less than 19 games otherwise Port are in real strife of finishing closer to the bottom of the ladder than the top 8.
Hartlett, although is an absolute gun, i wouldnt be expecting to much from. Ebert and Rodan coming back from knee recons which means this year could be hit and miss for them.
They need big improvement from Salter, Trengove, and Butcher to play a bit of the year. Salopek has to finally stand up or i would get rid of him. You can rely on Cassisi doing what he does, 10+ tackles and 20 possies a game, Kornes doing his usual stuff. Boak needs to contiually improve at the rate he is.
For mine, if Brogan is fit all year, they will be 10-13, if not 13-15

Wouldn't be at all shocked to see them push hard for the eight. Travis Boak is on the edge of becoming one of the genuine elite midfielders in the competition and holds a massive key to their chances. If the likes of Cassisi, Salopek, Pearce and Matt Thomas can get around to get their hands on it, they can match it with most midfields for lengths of time. The question will be, how long that time is per game.
Look a bit light in attack, and would need Daniel Motlop to boot 50+, Schulz 40+ and some support from Simon Phillips (if he grabs his chances), Jason Davenport in bursts and Robbie Gray to really make a charge. A more defined role for Justin Westhoff would be on the cards also, as he can be a very hard matchup when on song.
Massive, massive load now on Dean Brogan. If he went down, kiss goodbye to Port's season with it, as Redden, O'Shea and Stewart (even Westhoff) aren't up go leading the rucks for long.
A few queries here also, but something keeps nagging that they can pinch a spot. Don't underestimate the power of a new coaching voice either, many of these guys have played their full AFL career under one man. That could really spark them and take off the shackles.

As a Port supporter, I'm not particularly confident at all. Horrible draw, and with an injury with Lobbe in the pre-season, I'll nominate a finish somewhere between 11 and 15.

If Salopek, Boak, Gray and Hartlett could somehow stay fit for a big string of games it would be the makings of one of the better midfields in the comp. Up forward looks too thin as do the ruck stocks without Brogan.
There's the makings of a really good side there but I don't think 2011 will be their year.

Bottom 9. Like the Crows I don't see them making the finals in season 2011.

no finals since 2007
if port adelaide miss it for a four straight year i would want answers on
the development of the young players are they good enough?
is this list capable of finishing in the top four of the ladder on a consisent basis over a period of time?
are port still six-seven years from challenging for a flag?
i had port making the eight the last three years but i don't see them making at all. i reckon port has got the least amount of young emerging players which have proven they can make it at the top level compared to kangaroos, melbourne, adelaide of the last three years. i am happy to be proven wrong?

I'm predicting Port will make a huge loss this season, as per previous seasons

6th. They will be better than last year and ahead of most of the other non-Vic based clubs (except maybe Freo).

Would like to think we would field a side that would be able to beat the likes of wc, brisbane, richmond, gold coast and essendon. If we can jag a few against middle of the road sides such as melb, nth melb, adelaide then we should finish 8th-12th. Injuries will be a huge factor in the powers season, as what was on display on friday night tells me our depth is very inexperienced.

8th - no chance
12th - every chance

8th-10th would be my guess, depending if certain players find a home outside the medical rooms for a change. If Brogan goes down early, 12th-15th.
A big concern that we have known for many years the need to find another ruckman for when we lose Lade and Brogan, and we havent done it. I see Lobbe as a handy back up but not someone ready to step up to 1st ruck consistantly. Redden and Bass are many years off. Trengove and Westhoff are handy part timers. Another concern is the consistant injuries to two of our best players in Gray and Salopek. Add Hartlett to this and some of our best quality is too unreliable.
