A FULL replay of a drawn grand final will remain a unique element of the competition with the AFL Commission deciding to stick with the existing rule on Monday.
The decision comes just over two months after the third grand final draw in VFL/AFL history forced a replay the following week.
"The rule regarding replaying a grand final was discussed at the commission meeting," AFL media manager Patrick Keane told afl.com.au on Monday.
"It was the commission's view drawn grand finals are a rare occurrence and there was no reason to change the rules."

I can see your point saintal.....if my team drew a gf when if the game went into ET they most likely would have won, only to watch them lose the replay id be annoyed, but i agree that it should be kept due to the infrequency of a draw....

The GF replay was one of the biggest loads of horse shit I've seen in awhile. I watched about 10 minutes of the 1st quarter and that was enough. I say give it the arse.

Why was a lot of horse?
What was it about the first 10 minutes that turned you off?

Obviously being a St K supporter there are some sour grapes as we were flogged the next week (not saying we would have won in extra time, I see that as being 50/50 really), but I guess I was looking at it more from the paying spectator’s point of view, especially somebody who's travelled from interstate. At 5:30 that afternoon I, and everybody I spoke to at the ground, needed a result. The feeling at the ground was eerie.

I was lucky enough to go back again, and the atmosphere in Melb that Friday through Sunday wasn't the same. It's hard to describe really. Not that it effected me, but the replay screwed around a lot of other events (mainly sporting) also and was logistically challenging for the two clubs involved.

On the plus side there were less "corporates" and freeloaders at the replay. (I sat behind some overdressed blokes in GF1 that spent more time leaving their seat to grab a beer than watching the game..)

But we all know that the AFL loves currency. $$$$. I certainly contributed a fair slab into the AFL’s and the City of Melbourne’s coffers that fortnight

Yet it was a better than the embarrassing effort that my team put in, in GF#1 in 2007

I believe it is awesome result. Because if they change the rule for the grand final the AFL will be forced to changed the rule for minor round games as well I feel. I know the NRL, NFL, College Football, NHL, NBA, all have gotten rid of the draw so why not keep it. Sure the AFL will make extra cash with a replay but the week after those who missed out of the first might get to see the second.

Yeah fair point mate, but at the end of the day, the afl will never abolish the draw for that very reason $$$
