Now that McLeod has retired many have called him the best indigenous footballer we have seen. Pick your best three from these guns.

Yep, I deliberately omitted players who are still going. I reckon you can't go past Polly Farmer a guy who revolutionised Ruck Play when he went to Victoria in the 1960's. His battles with legendary Carlton giant John Nicholls go down in the stuff of footy folklore. When Big Nick acknowledges a man as the better player you know he's something special. My other votes went to Goodes and Wanganeen.

There's some fair players on that list!

Farmer then daylight, he virtually changed the game off his own boot and unlike the others on that lis a Legend of the game and rightfully so. Revolutionary.

Geez no Barry Cable? He'd have to be up there....

From what I've seen on old highlights, Syd Jackson was a favourite from Blueland....

Yeah I wondered about Cable, I forgot about Peter Matera as well and yeah Syd could play as well.

McLeod- 2 flags and 2 norm smiths plus multiple B & F's, AA's and 340 games. Champion of the AFC and the best indigenous footballer ive seen imo
Farmer- Purely as previously posted, his revolution of the ruck position.
Goodes- 2 Charlie's speak for themselves, a player that can play most positions and is damaging wherever he plays

Wanagas and long were unlucky to miss for mine, ripper footballers and exciting to watch.

On a local front, David Kantilla and Michael Graham were as good as any aboriginal player I've seen. I voted for the Big Cat Polly Farmer, his achievements in football are bettered by very few.

Same for me Piccachu...

Polly changed the game forever.

McLeod has been the most durable running half back/midfielder of my time

Goodes resume says it all. Dual Brownlow, Premiership, 200+ games. And he can play any position- One his first Charlie playing a lot of ruck IIRC...

Would say for my own opinion, Goodes will end up 1st by the time he hangs up his boots...

I was too young for Polly Farmer. I picked the former West Torrens Champ Michael Long. I hate essendon but he was worth watching there games. so smooth and always able to convert.

Bullsh!t poll, No Michael Graham no vote from me.

Exhibit A even when he was old and past it - 1987 he still out shone a then up and coming Michael long when they played for St Mary's in Darwin and when they played together subsequently in the 1988 NT Bicentenial carnival team.

Exhibit B I umpired him in a B grade game in Alice in 2001 - could still play still had speed at the age of 50 and his body work was sensational.

Best indigenous player I've ever seen and believe me having lived in Alice Sprinsg and Darwin I've seen a few. Just quietly Leo Jurrah is as good as his son Liam

Also need to add Stephen Michael from South Fremantle. Absolute gun. Think of Adam Goodes but half as good again.

Farmer
Revolutionised the game on the field.
Long & Winmar did so off the field.
I'd put Long ahead of Winmar as a player though.

And Stephen Michael would have been considered the greatest (by the Vic media)if he came to the VFL.

One of my favorite players ever.

Also Wirrapanda (Eagles).

Not the impact player like some of the other names, but I really rate a guy who can play match after match (over 200 IIRC), without fuss and fanfare, without being noted as an "indigenous" player.

We hear about McLeod, Winmar, Long, Rioli, Goodes, etc, being dominant indigenous players, but for me I struggle to get past Wirrapanda, for just getting the job done every time...

I know I'll get howled down for this, but I wonder if Michael Long improves over time. Certainly, he had a wonderful 1993 Grand Final, and an excellent 1995, but he also had many games, pre-injury, where he wasn't anywhere near as consistent as most others on the list.
