It just goes to show what a bloody joke we are here still bickering about a new stadium, when they could probably build another in Melbourne.
Wake up Adelaide.
No one under the age of 30 wants to go to AAMI stadium.
Build a new stadium, inject life into the city and I can tell you right now they will sell out every Crows & Port game.
I LOVE footy... but i've only been to 10 games in AAMI in my life.
All Etihad needs to do in make the deck synthetic like some NFL stadiums in USA.
Dallas Cowboys just built a new $1.2 billy 80,000 stadium.

NFL stadiums are close to half'ish the size of aussie rules stadiums (think Hindmarsh Stadium v AAMI). Plus that's about $1.4b in Australian dollars. So you'd be looking at $1.7b at least for an equivalent stadium here based on that price comparison. Not a great comparison to justify a new one here.
Don't forget Melbourne can stage at least twice as many games as an Adelaide stadium to justify the huge economic investment.

I'm more than comfortable for a new stadium to be built with all the bells and whistles in Adelaide, so long as it's not funded by the taxpayer.
FFS, we can't even fill the current stadium ... are an extra 40,000 people per fortnight (10,000 Crows and 30,000 Power) going to turn up just because there's a stadium in the city?
Anyone with half a business brain would realise it's pie in the sky financially ... you would never get a return on investment.
Give me a break!

and it'd be developed by people who really think the Adelaide and Port Adelaide faithful will happily pay premium prices (such as the second tier at Etihad) which will make the stadium a white elephant.
And to the question "do we want a stadium with a roof" the answer should be categorically NO! Look at the problems with the surface at Etihad and learn from it.

I'd like to see where all the cheerleaders, camera men, referees, coaches, trainers and 100 odd players would stand at Hindmarsh Stadium!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Qwest_Field_North.jpgThis one is Seattle's home ground and the dimensions are 109.7m x 50.6m.
Hindmarsh is 120.0m x 78m. It's almost twice as big.
Ethiad Stadium is 160m x 141m. It's twice as big as Hindmarsh.
The Hindmarsh Stadium example was to try to get him into context of how much smaller the NFL field sizes are even with 60-80,000 seat capacities. Keep hearing people quoting NFL stadium construction costs and a lot don't realise how much smaller the field sizes are. I have no idea how much extra it would cost to build a 60000 seat stadium around an aussie rules field v a smaller NFL field but it would be something.

Isn't Seattles the smallest in the NFL?
And are you quoting playing area size or ground size?
Unless Hindmarsh is twice as big as it was when I went there last there is no way it could have a NFL game.

Disregard, Ive just been told the playing area is larger at Hindmarsh since I last went (Adelaide City days).

An NFL field is surprisingly small. TV makes it look bigger I reckon. They don't seem to leave much room on the sidelines really and the crowds seem to be right behind the end zones of what is only a 100 yard playing field plus the end zones (by length it would barely reach from the goal square at AAMI to the centre circle).
Don't know if Seattle's is one of the smaller ones. I just googled NFL field dimensions and that was the first that came up.

Etihad Stadium cost $460 million and 3 years to build in 1997?
With a roof, 50k capacity, 2500 underground parks and movable seating.
Include 30% inflation to 2010.
$600million.
What's the problem??
Build a new one.

Have the seats ever been moved?

The stadium is the first stadium to have movable seating in Australia. All four level 1 tiers of the stadium can be moved up to 18 metres forward into a rectangular configuration. It was first used for a Melbourne Storm game in July 2001. Despite the seating being a key feature of the stadium, it has rarely been used, citing damage to turf, time to deploy the seats and a reduced capacity (the corners of the stadium in level 1 are not movable). The last time it was used in its rectangular configuration was the 2010 A-League Grand Final (Melbourne Victory vs Sydney FC)

I built a house in 1998 that cost $120K. It was a big house that would be $180K-$200K to build today. Construction costs have gone up by > 30% easily. I'd say double it at least. Steel prices along have sky rocketed since then. labour prices too.

The stadium at Docklands demonstrates the big problem of "sissifying" Aussie Rules by trying to make it an indoor sport.
Surely the weather is part of the game - for the supporters too!
When I went regularly I
stood out on the mound in my rain coat, and hoisted the umbrella if it
really rained.
