Port need cash!

Just thought I would post this here because of somethig ridiculous that occurred today at AAMI.
A few friends of mine rocked up 20 minutes before the the Port v Carlton game today. They were told that all general admission seats were sold out and they would have to buy a 'premium' ticket to get into the game at $36.50 or so. The majority told them to get stuffed. Why? Because the reason general admission was sold out was because of the stupid plastic covers on the seats.
It's very rare that a Port v Carlton game gets much less than 30,000 so why not reduce the amount of plastic covers depending who you are playing.
A few of the covers don't have any sponsors on them so remove them
Sounds smart to me!
Anyway, there will be a number of complaint letters being written.
I guess Port wouldn't have lost to much with the people that refused to pay the extra as the ones that did pay, paid a 'premium' but surely you want more bums on seats.

Ahh - yet Mr Rucci thinks its unreasonable that Glenelg refused to swap our home game against the Magpies from The Bay to AAMI

They'd probably double the number of tarps just so Glenelg supporters would have to pay "Premuim" rates to watch a curtain-raiser due to limited general admission seats being available ;) ;)

Yep spot on 85WAGY, the stories the coming from the Glenelg side that had to play before the Power today regarding ticket availability for: players, support staff and people wanting to see them only. I am so glad our Board deliberated over the decision to swap home games for the May 29. Glenelg people would have been forced to pay 200 - 300% more for a game thay would normally had to pay for or in some case had paid for already.

Not too mention the personal "aggrevation" I would have to go through balancing school footy commitments and then my commitments at the GFC with them being involved in a curtain raiser Saturday lunchtime.

Extremely happy sanity has prevailed with this.

please dont take this the wrong way from a crows supporter but ..........what an absoulte joke if this is correct a club struggling for members and two sides playing good attractive football i would have thought they would be trying to promote there product as much as possible to sign new or lapsed members to turn around and say you have to pay a premium is a disgrace . Who is more important an un sponsered plastic sheet or a person who has taken the time to get to ammi only to be told this ??? as derryn hinch would say SHAME SHAME SHAME on you port

No doubt PhilH. $38 for a 'covered seat is correct.
I'm talking about the outer though. Normally $20.80 IIRC.
These people just wanted an outer seat but were made to pay the same (give a dollar or so) as you did for you 'covered' seat.
They wont win any fans with that crap I tells ya.

it was a joke. exactly same thing happened to me. me and the missus only had $60 on us, so we were very lucky we were with a couple of mates, so they could cover the price of the tickets!

and absolute joke. if i lived anywhere up near AAMI, i woulda told them to shove it, seeing as i was just there as a neutral supporter. but the fact i drove from Victor Harbor, ensured that i wasnt going to waste the trip up there.

we estimated about 6000 general admin seats were covered by the tarps. an absolute joke.

That's about my estimation of it too.
From the amount of people that were arguing with the gate staff when I went outside at qtr time I'd say they would have missed out on at least 1500 to 2000 that told them to shove it.
Very silly.
But hang on, let me guess, it's the SANFL's fault, or maybe it's North's fault baecause they played in the curtain raiser ;)

Each cover, covers 600 seats. Port also had a MAJOR free ticket give away game today.

Massive Carlton contingent though 8)

well done to Port, if they uncovered the covered seating, then more carlton fans would have been allowed into the ground, and it would have felt more like Optus oval then footy park

Misjudged the size of the Carlton turnout, nothing more, nothing less.

I didnt think a Sunday afternoon against Carlton would draw us 30,000 and neither did the powers that be. I like the idea of the tarps and it is a pity we have had to go down that path but we are realistic in knowing what our drawing power is. 30,000 on good days against teams with a good following it appears.

I can't find the exact figures but I'm certain that since Carlton have come good the crowd at AAMI has been between 29,000 and 31,000 so surely they should have known it would be around this mark.
If they were looking at pre match sales and thinking the crowd would be down then they should realise that most of us know that you don't have to pre buy a ticket for a Power game.
I would love to see Ports home match attendances go past what the Crows are getting. There was only 31,000 at the last Crows home game against Richmond and they would have surpassed that had had they had the foresight to take away some of the plastic covers.

cheers jabber. we estimated the tarps cove 20 x 30 rows. equalling 600 seats.

and i only counted 10 tarps, but if there was 11 voice, then obviously my estimation would be closer to 6600 covered seats.

The 11th was in the members.

I thought the covers were able to be removed if a situation like this occurred. How long does it take to remove one of those covers? Could have easily been done IMO, freeing up plenty of seats.

Exactly, you would just remove one cover at a time and if they bay filled then remove another cover.

Pretty simple really, not rocket science. ;)

and i couldn't imagine it taking a long time to take it off, fold it up and put it away. 15mins maybe?

as i said, if i hadn't driven over an hour to get there, i woulda told them where to shove it!
