Our rucks ?

They have no impact on a game and do not get the ball into our on ballers hands first. Even Tippett is a waste of time when he goes on the ball.
What do we do next year?
Maric has to go, he is not of AFL standard. Griffen not up to it and Sellar needs time and plenty of it by the looks. Moran? McKernan?

2 games and you're already talking about next year?
I didn't think Maric or Sellar did too badly yesterday, they midfield just wasn't their to back them up. Sydney were crowding the ball ups with numbers also to prevent any clean posession as well. Maric did a bit around the ground as well. Both did better than Griffin last week that's for sure.
Still, it's very apparent that the ruck is a very weak link in the side and I think we'll see Moran (injury permitting) and McKernan getting another crack at some stage this year.

Maric hasnt had much football under his belt remember. Give him a few more games to get going.
You should also be looking at the midfield that failed to see this and rove to a losing ruckman. But god, its only early. Next week is another week.

I thought Maric actually won the ball ups particularly centre bounces but Crows were smashed at ground level. Having said that Seabys pushes forward for a couple of goals and general field play certainly gave him the check mark for the day. Time for some old fashioned one on one footy.

Ridiculous!
He's not one of the best ruckmen in the comp but he gives it his all (unlike Griffin), he at least tried to get involved around the ground (unlike Griffin) and he lays it all on the line (you get it!). He had 10 possessions, 6 marks and 23 hit-outs yesterday, that's pretty darn good considering he didn't have any match fitness to speak of. He'll only get better.
Ruckmen don't peak until they're about 25/26, Maric is 24 and will start to come into his own soon. More than handy player.

I'm not a big Griffin fan because I believe he should be doing better but I feel for the guy as he had nothing to gain in Round 1 rucking solo against the tallest and toughest ruckman in the comp and when he hasn't come out on top he got the ass for Round 2. Seemed a bit harsh to me...

Fair call Choccies. Tough gig for anyone against the BFG. Will probably get another chance again this week after Sellar pinged his hammy. Only other option I can see is McKernan who has been in reasonable form for the Panthers.

I just think 1 week is not long enough to get any consistency and that is what teh coaches expect afterall...
Typical..... take a Panthers player just when we're heading to the top

I thought all 3, Maric, Sellar, and Griffin, looked more promising when they first started than they do now, and I suspect losing heart is a factor.
While they are developing, I'd consider using all 3 in rotation through the bench and full forward so the one in the ruck is always reasonably fresh.
But our emphasis is on "running players", so I don't expect it to happen.
[I still can't see any sense in going up against Sandilands with only one inexperienced ruckman....]

It is sad that he is 24 and still an "inexperienced ruckman"

Like I said earlier you really need to throw at least 2 guys at Sandilands and try to wear him down. Even if Maric was underdone get him on for short periods, nothing prepares your body like game time.
Even with this they could have rotated through FF with tippett and work hard against him by pushing forward and making sandilands accountable around the ground. Really the only way to play the big man, to go in wiht only Griffen and then drop him is probably a bit harsh.

Give one ruckman the job of jumping into Sandilands all day are hurt him physically and let the other come on fresh to attack him... we never stretched them or Sydney at all with height...

Silly comment really, your ruckman can be anything but without a firing midfield is brought back to the pack, made evident by fremantle, sandilands wins a sh*tload of hitouts but without a midfield freo lose most centre clearnances. Only once the crows midfield begins to fire will the likes of maric and sellar seem a good ruck tandem. Give it time, its only april......

The crows have alot of work to do regarding their ruckmen, they are too below par for an AFL standard

Maric looked good when he DOMINATED on his own in the goal sqaure on his own in the last term, I was wrong he can actually mark a ball, his only problem is doing ity when someone else is near him. Loved his first class disposal again today too

.
Maybe if he had have gone down the other end and manned up Jamar we might have won, typical Craig NEGATIVE coaching. Ohhh its getting tight ...lets get numbers behind the ball....

ruckman are hard to find. like racehorses keep turning them over until you find a good one. and yes you currently need to keep turning them over. Drop Maric back to the Port Magpies please
