Reckon the Power will be very much similar to last year, very up and down, but will be a bit more up than last year.

anyone who tries to predict AFL finalists at this time of the year sets themselves up for egg on the face... that aside I believe the Power have enough good players to finish somewhere between 5th and eighth if they have a reasonable run with injuries and suspensions.
To do that I think we need Salopek, Boak, Hartlett, Gray and Cassisi to all stay sound and Pearce, both Cornes's and Ebert to produce their best footy week in, week out for the entire season. If that happens, we are a big chance IMO.

You know nothing about football if your stating Maxwell as the worst captain in the AFL. :roll:

As far as Power are concerned they may fractually improve 1 or 2 spots this year.
After 1 NAB Cup game its understandable to hear their players talking up the year.
Surjan said last year they had a better squad than the 2004 premiership year. :oops:

This year after 1 game he's saying how tough & hard they are.
For how long will that type of football last?
Wait til they meet the tough sides :lol:

Port to finish between 9-12 based on some fresh approaches from fresh coaches and fresh players. Losing some key players from last year will force the coaches to gamble on some young players and youth can be exciting but inconsistent. Personally id rather play exciting young players that are keen but not yet stars compared to old players whose enthusiasm isnt as great as it once was.

As for Cassisi as worst captain in the AFL, well youve got to be fishing for a bite to make a comment like that.

Absolutely spot on with all of that!

I'm really hoping our young players step up, play some good positive footy and Port gets back to the tough hard style of old.

Obviously coaching has a lot to do with it to, so hopefully Chocco is bleating on about hard attacking footy.

I don't care if we lose more than we win this year, providing we show signs of significant improvement in the style of play. Last year was diabolical to watch at times. As long as we have a red hot go (RHG!!!

), I'll be happy in 2010.

9-12 IMO.

Probably a bit harsh to be at the same price as Freo for the flag, but then again at that end of the scale it doesnt really matter

At that price, the Saints are probably a good lay because you just know they'll cock it up again.

But having your hard earned tied up all year isn't worth it IMO.

Obviosly the result is meaningless but the signs are good for 2010.

More good signs from the port boys tonight. A real bummer that we couldn't make the granny. I think a bit if 2009 style dallying with silly handballs and cute backwards/sideways chips really cost us. When we got it on quickly and moved it forward without the stuffng about we looked excellent.

Anyhoo I'm happy with the intent at this stage!

MOST IMPORTANT PLAYER
Dean Brogan is Port Adelaide’s only experienced ruckman and his ability to stand up this season is pivotal to the club’s chances of returning to the top eight. The Power have auditioned a number of players in the second ruck spot this pre-season, but it’s unlikely any of these candidates could hold down a lead role if Brogan were to be sidelined.

UP AND COMER
Goalkicking midfielder Mitch Banner missed a large chunk of last season with a frontal sinus fracture, but is in contention for round one after a scorching summer. Banner, 19, featured in the Power’s best players in the first three rounds of the NAB Cup and he could consider himself unlucky not to get a game against North Melbourne.

NEEDS A BIG YEAR
Brett Ebert set himself for a big pre-season after being dropped for two games last year. The raking left-footer topped Port Adelaide’s goalkicking in 2007 and must produce a more consistent effort this season, considering Cameron Hitchcock, Wade Thompson and Daniel Stewart are all pushing for a spot in the forward line.

CHANGING TACK
The Power have stunned opposition teams this pre-season with their strong defensive pressure and intensity. Former North Melbourne coach Dean Laidley has been credited with the team’s stunning transformation, while Garry Hocking has played a role in fast-tracking the club’s young players. Port Adelaide played a more direct style of footy over the NAB Cup/Challenge and its run out of defence was also a feature.
