AFL Reacts to WDO ruling on 'Chappy Cure'

The WDO has banned the process of injecting your own (oxynegated) blood into injured tissue to promote a more rapid recovery. The AFL will follow suit and ban the practice in 2010. It was this treatment that allowed Geelong's Paul Chapman to take his place in the 2009 Grand Final.

The process involves spinning the patient's blood with a centerfuge (I'm not a scientitian but you get me drift) and this apparently promotes higher levels of oxygen. This blood is then injected into the injured area and this promotes more rapid healing.

Why has this practice been banned if it keeps star players on the field? Is the AFL obligated to implement every WDO directive? It's not like a player is taking performance enhancing drugs. For the record other players have benefitted from this treatment but it was kept pretty much house with the Chapman case being the most publicised example.

REB

PS - How many spelling errors in THAT lot!

Have they only reacted because Chapman got the Norm Smithy?

Would they have reacted the same if he had a stinker?

Once again, AFL jumping all over something at the drop of a hat.

How do Collingwood cheat? They only cheat themselves by not using 20 home games a year to their advantage.

I'm all for these fancy techniques, especially when the player in question is paying $13 for the Norm Smith ;)

Easy mate - didn't you read that article which said that Port Adelaide has the greater draw advantage of any other club in the league?

BTW - the Geelong cheats business was only a joke to rile REB. He loves it.

Gossipgirl, how do Collingwood cheat? Not a Crows supporter still bitter about THAT finals loss are you?

Twisted, for certain.

What are these "things" that the AFL "do" to try and "make sure they are successful"?
Just because people who dislike Collingwood say these sort of things occur, doesn't mean it's actually happening GG. Proof please.
It's one of those myths that people believe, kind of like the one that the Kangaroos need to leave Melbourne to successful.
All myth, no evidence.

Didn't Chappy ping his hammy during the GF as well? It was obvious he went in the rooms for some painkiller injections, which helped him continue to play out the game - do we ban cortisone now too?

I don't see an issue with the pre-game treatment Chappy received. It helped get a champion player up for the AFL's finest spectacle and in turn allowed us to witness a great individual effort and memorable game.

Neil Kerley described Barrie Robran as a football cheat because he was so damn good. I think DW is doing similar in regard to Geelong. ;)
