First things first with the additions of Gibson and Burgouyne to the team you would suggest straight away they will improve from last year. Also add in the fact that Trent Croad will be returning or at this stage reckons he’s ready to go. This pretty much means they have 2 key defenders back there. Add in the fact that Campbell Brown is there as well, they really are starting to look alot better down back.
With Kennedy, McGlynn and Williams traded and Thompson (retired) appears to be the major outs. I believe Tim Boyle has retired but he hasn’t been part of the team as he’s been struck with injury.
I would expect Renouf to be the number one ruckman with the other bloke, I forget his name at the moment backing him up. I cant believe I cant recall his name, you know the older guy who <edit> Taylor! I remembered. This might be a weak point for them, but with there staggering midfield talent I would think they can cover this.
I guess with Roughead been out for an extended period, this means extra strain on Franklin, I would say they need to find another key tall to fire the ball at, this is probably where Boyle would have been useful. I feel this could be an area of concern for them as well.
Predicition : Top 8 – Even with some of there concerns I still expect them to go well, having the key talls back there will make a huge difference and shaun Burgoyne will be useful as well.

5-8. If Clarko thinks the cluster will deliver another top four spot I reckon he'll be disappointed. Like Geelong this year, they'll have to come up with some new tricks.

Have to agree REB, the cluster has been copied and probably bettered by St. Lyon- and as it showed even then it may not get you all the way. Teams have also had more time to work around it.

A more direct path into the forward line would be a good start. Maybe kicking slightly to advantage to the forwards rather than trying lace-out perfect passes everytime would be good. Also some pace through the centre. And a more settled lineup week in week out, with more than a few completing an entire preseason. Getting my Chrissy wishes in now.

Wouldnt rely on Croady being back- the whole thing smells like Egan Mk 2.

One issue which I have not put on here is about Franklin being the only target with Roughead out. They could start to experiance the Fevola problem that carlton had. I still think top 8, but agree with rebs call of 5 - 8.

To any and all Hawthorn supporters out there. Hawthorn FC have approached Marion FC in the Southern Football league about becoming their "sister side" in SA. Marion Sports and Community club is home to the SA Hawthorn supporters club. so it all fits well. There will be a clinic for mini's and juniors and any other child interested from 5 to 14 year olds. doesnt matter which club your from. Three Hawthorn players will be attending, Brent Guerra, Beau Muston and Benjamin Stratton and the Marion senior boys will be there to help out. Clinic is on the 2nd of Feb 6 till 8 pm at the Marion Football Club Sturt rd. just down from Marion Shopping Centre.

If there stars are fitter than last year, then I would expect them to finish in the top 4.

Roughead was looking good after his injury, starting to move better now.

Burgoyne has stained his hammy and looks to bit out for a few weeks, will be struggling to make it back in time for round 1.

He is a great player, but it seems to me he is always injured!
