Herald Sun wrote:
AN Essendon player has been arrested after an altercation with a cabbie on Hoddle St early this morning.
Police said his morning that a 19-year-old from Rosanna has been arrested over an altercation with a cab driver in Hoddle St.
AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou has told 3AW radio that the player in question is Michael Hurley.
The Herald Sun understands the player was picked up by a taxi outside a South Melbourne nightclub about 5.30 this morning and went to a Hungry Jacks in Hoddle St.
He left the taxi for some food and when the cabbie pursued him asking for his fare, the player kicked the driver in the groin and punched him.
Police were called arrested the player at the scene and took him to Fitzroy police station.

Fev will appreciate this - it might give him a rest from the media for a couple minutes.

Look at all the comments concerning this one. Fevs worst crime was putting someone in a headlock and offending people but it's played out in the media and a 5 page thread on safooty, this man has a violent charge he has to face up to and this is the fourth comment about it and it probably won't get longer then a page.

Totally agree. Its a case of who it is not what they did. Fev wasn't arrested but everyone calls for his head. Hurley was arrested but this will not cause anywhere as big stir in the media. Weak as

Yes let's be fair, Hurley's was the worst offence as it included more violence.
But Fev's behaviour has been more consistent.
I'd like to see the AFL deregister players for a period for any episode of public drunkenness as they bring the game into disrepute.
And warn them from the start - three times you're out - permanently...

I would've thought those angered by Fev being hung out to dry in the media wouldn't be keen to discuss this sort of thing. It is the media's fault after all.
Or is it only because it's Fev that they're peeved about the coverage being received for an action even the big fella has said he's ashamed of.

Will be interesting to see what the AFL do in relation to deregistering him as a player after police charges were laid, that is exactly what was done to Leigh Matthews after he was charged with Assault for am incident on the field with Neville Bruns of Geelong. If that is there policy on players charged with serious assault then I would expect that to be the outcome.

Some reasons why this thread is shorter:

- young bloke with his first alleged offence
- Fev may have lesser "crimes" however he is 10 years older and the incidents recur year after year
- this is mainly a South Australian forum and Hurley is from Essendon and not as widely known as our mate Fev
- SAFooty's AFL board has far less traffic than pure AFL sites (compared to BigFooty where the Hurley incident was the most popular topic on Friday - up to 20 pages last time I looked)

So I don't think the length of this thread v the Fev one is an example of Fev being unfairly scrutinised or victimised. Even Judd has had enough of his repeated incidents.

So Essendon have finally decided to act on Hurley, and have handed him a 1 NAB CUP match suspension.

LMFAO !! Get pissed and allegedly bash a Taxi driver, and you get one game from the club...
