I know many of you are thinking who... But his achievements cannot go unrecognised. The South Australian is about to boundary umpire in his 12th consecutive AFL Grand Final. Im pretty sure that is a record. Extremely well done Darren.

what does it take to become a good boundry umpire??
the way i see it is if you do one grandfinal there is no reason why you cant do 12 in a row..
a bit like a ball boy in tennis, not much to it just get the ball and bounce it back..
but hey he has done 12 more than alot of people so good on him..
but to be fair some things in life come down to who you no...

I guess the main thing he has to do is get his job done and get it done right.

Alot of people in alot of work places wouldn't be able to make the same claim..

One thing he has to be is very fit. They train harder than most AFL footballers with the amount of KM'S they have to run per week.

They run further than anyone on the field, actually. :) Plus, you would still have to concentrate for the unexpected to happen right until the last moment. And also communication with other umpires, plus the ability to throw the ball in a reasonable distance throughout the match.

i buy all of that and now think to be a good at it you have to be fit [which counts me out].. the fitter you are the closer to the contest you will be, which will make the decision making pretty easy.. ball over the line or ball not over the line..ball out on the full ball not out on the full.....
