BREAKING NEWS: AFL players boss Brendon Gale will move to Punt Rd to become the Tigers' new CEO.

Gale will take over from incumbent Stephen Wright, who was forced to stand down due to ill-health.

Gale will leave his current role as AFL Players Association CEO immediately, due to possible conflicts of interest, though will help with a handover to his successor

Gale will now be heavily involved in the recruitment of the Tigers new senior coach.

Tigers president Gary March described it as an "outstanding appointment", and said Gale would bring "a wealth of industry experience".

"We needed someone who truly understood the football industry," March said.

Richmond made the formal offer to Gale on Saturday afternoon after discussions over the previous several weeks.

Gale, 41, who played alongside his brother, Michael, at Richmond, was appointed CEO of the players' group in 2005.

Wright will still have a consultancy role at the club overseeing the redevelopment of its Punt Rd facilities.

Thoughts? I think this is a good move by Richmond, Gale seems to have his head screwed on.

Good way to change the culture of the club by bringing in ex players who were involved at the height of their poor performances

Recently Gale attended a course at Harvard which I understood was paid for by the AFLPA and possibly with some contribution from the AFL.

Given the quick move to Richmond since then (only 2-3 months later), would the $ sponsors be seeking a contribution from Richmond towards a course that ultimately they will get all the benefit from?

As for a successor, would Luke Darcy consider a role at the AFLPA? Peter Bell?

Brendan Gale doesn't strike me as the stereotypical 'Richmond person' who will perpetuate current negative culture. I could be wrong, but he seems from the outside to have the type of attributes that Richmond needs at the moment.
