Really enjoy listening to her on the weekend. Nice to hear Women call the football

I watched the last few minutes of the Geelong - Hawthorn game on youtube a few minutes ago and her voice annoyed the hell out of me.

are you for real?? dont get me wrong i love all women but it just wasnt the same IMO..
good on her for giving it a go though..

She knows the game well, obviously does her research.
But i'm not sure the general viewing public enjoys listening to her. No genuine excitement or enthusiasm, she tries but it is all fake. BORING

all she does is say the players name pretty much. she cant commentate at all IMO.

I think it is even worse that its a female. No disrespect, but it just doesnt sound right listening to a female commentate a footy game. Her voice is not meant for it.

I would love to hear someone else actually commentate the game, not just say who has the ball. And bring some excitement with the new commentator channel 10!!!

Should preface this by saying I have never met Kelli, nor have had any dealings with her at all, but have watched her career with great interest over a number of years.

Looking forward to the day when she is simply recognised as being a "football commentator" rather than a "female football commentator". I've listened to some of her radio calls and saw her first TV call in this year's NAB Cup and she gets the names right, doesn't throw in hyperbole and calls it as she sees it.

She is on a hiding to nothing in some ways - if she yelled, some would say she is trying too hard; if she is quieter, then it lacks excitement. In many ways, she will not win over a percentage of the football public, no matter how good she is and that, to me, is a real shame. I'm a big wrap for how she calls and hope she keeps going as long as she is accepted by the majority of football followers. In reality, if Kelli was a male, then hardly anyone would be saying anything and that alone is disappointing.

Someone that should be admired, not made to feel inferior, IMHO.

refering to tom hawkins as the tommahawk would be considered as "throwing in hyperbole"?? and there was a few more to go with that...

And which commentator hasn't called him the Tomahawk?

I think every new commentator takes a bit of getting used to...think everyone needs to give her more of a chance before passing harsh judgement

She can't be doing worse than Hamish McLachlan on Triple M.

Very well said CK, wouldn't matter how good she is, people would still want to find faults.

She is a lot better than some of the numbnuts that find themselves in a commentary team.

give her time i didn't mind hearing her on saturday it was a top game and nine times outta ten i dun care who is commentating the game as long as it ain't bruce.

Can't stand her.

I thought she was terrible when she did that Cats v Crows game earlier in the year but she's done the required homework on the players and I think she has really improved and will get better. I'd rather listen to Kelli than several of the so called 'name' commentators who are all MASSIVELY overrated. More new voices are needed, male and female.

Agreed. Not the best of the best as yet but I think she's a lot better than many of the supposed 'cream' of commentator land. Can only get better.

Need to find the right words for this ... I don't think the issue most seem to have with her is with her abilities as a female commentator, I think it's more just her voice - Every footy fan has been used to hearing male only voices calling the game for years, and it will probably take some time just to get used to the difference.

She is certainly on a hiding-to-nothing so she should be commended on her bravery (and whilst it's taken me a little time to become used to her, I don't have any problems with her calls that I've heard) - She would be loathe to make actual comments on key issues within a game (ie, Player A is sneaking ahead of centre and his direct opponent player B should be trying to take him closer to goal) because she hasn't the playing experience most other commentators have, so she is doing everything that should reasonably be expected of a non-colour commentator imho.

It's interesting that if you switch on a netball game and there's female commentators, noone bats an eyelid ... I think it's just a mindset that needs to be challenged before it can be changed, and that's now where we find ourselves at.

Give her a chance, she's better to listen to than Time Lane & Michael Christiansen, sh*t are they ordinary.

Talking about "grating & gravel" voices, what about the sound that comes out of Caro's mouth every time she speaks.Sounds like a rusty wheel on a "stump jump" plough or a bloke on a jackhammer.
If she hasn't got something similar to the male anatomy then I'm 'he' for chasey.
