The hit was huge, grossly mis-timed not to mention reckless.
Three weeks.
For those who missed the hit

Settle down. The worst part was that he took his eyes off the ball, however this was after he had left the ground and a split second before he hit Rich. Watch it again and if the ball carried 2 more metres Chaplin would have marked it and the hit may have been in the other direction. Great courage by Rich, he is a gun.
For mine, 2 weeks is what I think he will get.
How can you "grossly" mis-time something by a mere second?

He was never going to get there. No eyes for the ball. Jumped like a cannon ball. He has a few carry over points too?

I reckon 2 weeks would be fair, there's not really much more he could have done once he left the ground (prior to Rich marking the ball) ... Thankfully it didn't happen early last year when the AFL went all Nazi on incidents like these.
I reckon he'll be looking at 3 down to 2 with an early.

This is why AFL is so f***ed now ... a tad late, mid air bump, arms down, didn't hit him in the head, at worst 15m (oops, OK 50m then).
That's what would have happened before the game at the national level was turned into netball.
I ask you this, what would be the result of this incident if it happened in the SANFL?

Dirty rotten mongrel lines him up and went for it. No intention for the ball, just wanted to clean him up...
Send a message that this sort of stuff cannot be tolerated.
6 weeks.
* actually, if he kept his eyes on the ball I'd say throw it out, but he may get 2 to show everyone the AFL is serious.

One eye doesn't have good depth perception.

I said at the time he shouldnt have even been reported, IMo he was committed to the clash, if he backed out he would have felt the coaches wrath.
Should be thrown out

Looking at the replays Chaplin leaves the ground only one step after Rich, hardly a mis-timed leap.
Having said that, he should have avoided Rich by performing a one and half pike while mid-air.

Standing by my statement. Poor judgement, no eyes on the ball, three weeks. If lucky two.

Should've tunnelled him instead
You are right though SS, he doesn't have eyes on the ball, which will be his undoing. Must have realised early he wasn't going to make it and went for self-preservation at the expense of Rich.
