Will be interesting to see if the AFL green lights this proposal, would be interesting to see how many would go to a North Melbourne vs Fremantle match in Perth?

Roos hopeful of home game in Perth

North Melbourne are seeking to play a home game against West Coast at Perth's Subiaco Oval next AFL season.

Kangaroos president James Brayshaw said the move could reap close to $750,000 for the club, if the league allowed it.

He said their request, which is still to be formally submitted to the AFL, would be to play the match during the mid-season split round as a stand-alone Saturday game.

"I think it would be fantastic, on the bye weekend, on the Saturday, it would be the only game being played in the country on that day, it would be a marquee occasion," Brayshaw told the Nine Network's AFL Footy Show.

"It's an enormously attractive fiscal thing, (it's worth) three quarters of $1 million nearly, so if it happens it would be great for us."

The club also submitted a similar request last year, but were turned down by the AFL.

The league has so far been steadfast in refusing requests by clubs to play interstate home games in established AFL states, preferring them to go to developing markets, such as New South Wales, Queensland and Canberra.

But the Roos are hopeful that given the Victorian clubs' dissatisfaction with stadium deals currently provided by Melbourne's Etihad Stadium and the MCG, the league will agree to their request this time.

"We did put the request in last year and it was knocked back," Brayshaw said.

"I think it's a great idea, it's only one game.

"I think it would end up being a marquee fixture, so we're really excited about it, if it happens."

They were talking about it on the Footy show last night. Basically Brayshaw was saying that it could be worth 650k to the club.

You have to be proactive with this sort of stuff due to the crap stadium deals, Roos have a good following in Perth so not as stupid as it seems

IIRC, North did this in the late '80s.
Gave the Eagles an extra home game in either 88 or 89.

Er, probably a very similar number to a Fremantle v North Melbourne match in Perth.

With a 17 team comp next year, therefore a bye being included in the draw, I don't think there will be any split rounds.

There will not be 17 teams in the comp until 2011.
