Jason Akermanis: the man behind the mouth

http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/ ... 42,00.htmlInteresting read. He says alot but in a way I dont mind that about him. Anyway if you have a few minutes its worth a read.
Just an interesting section to read:
"BEST PLAYER IN LIONS' DAYS
Vossy had the hardness, Blacky the hands, Hart was the best gut-runner, closely followed by Nigel Lappin. No one could bust a pack like Vossy, so Vossy. He would let everyone know, too. He was a very good verbaliser."

read it yesterday, great read. must be something in it re Aker and Leppitsch. cetainly i think him a voss dont get on but he sure rates him as a footy player. This is why the Herald Sun kills the Advertiser. Advertiser sport is poor.

Cheers for posting that Stan. I read Aker's autobiography a couple of years ago. He's certainly a very outspoken and interesting character. I don't necessarily agree with alot of the things he says, but he did alot on the field for the Brisbane Lions, so can't fault him there. I'll always love Aker for that!

Voss is definately the best player the Lions have ever had, apart from Johnny Gastev.

Yeah good article, he has been good at the dogs in 08 & 09, has a huge mouth but backed it up with his on field performances.

I know Neil Hein, lives in Mt Barker/Hahndorf somewhere now. Tall bastard, absolute giant, BFG stuff. Saw him at Christmas and his 2 young fellas are touching the ceiling too and they'd only be in their early teens, not sure if they play juniors for a club around the HFL??

Go Heiny. I remember him from the days when Norwood used to win football matches and occasionaly premierships! Showing my age a bit there!

Always loved Aker. He's been great for footy and the media. On field, there's nothing better than Aker in full flight. Off field, a god send. Where the normal plodski's get trotted out with their usual cliche's, you know you'll never get one from Aker. Funny part is, because there is a lack of individualism in responses, he gets lambasted for not using cliche's.
Go Aker, give em heaps.

won't happen!!! he walks the talk! and the problem when he does go, there isn't anyone (yet) who is outspoken to take his media role, player wise... too much political correctness and not enough open opinions i reckon!!!

Its refreshing to have someone in the game like this! He speaks his mind without the scripted crap we get from everyone in the game.
Theres no doubt he will be remembered, for good and bad reasons but 300 Games, 3 Premierships, Brownlow Medal speaks for itself.
Ripper Effort!

Thats not a backhanded swipe at yourself is it BJ...?
But i agree - Aker is good for the game. Dont always agree with what he says but at least he has the confidence to speak his mind...then to back it up on the field.

Not at all swoop, but point taken. I guess he went about it in a way that was controversial but really in the end he wasnt saying anything that others werent thinking.
Backing it up on the field is where hes done his best work!

Agree with you there BJ. In these days of policital correctness and the AFL police state policy, its actually nice when a guy comes out and just mouths off. The fact that he backs it up on the field just makes more people listen to him.

He almost destroyed Braun's reputation as a footballer by accussing him being on drugs. The guy needs a big cup of STFU.
