I went to the Bulldogs Crows game yesterday and it was tight until the third quarter, there was some banter between myself and a few lads i was with (dogs supporters) and a few of the crows lads around. with about 20mins to go Crows fans started leaving the match down by maybe 6-7 goals at the time... i find this to be very poor and as my wife so aptly put it,

We need you number 19!!!

so i jumped on that and gave them heaps.

anyway my point is, why would you walk out on Your team? if in fact you do support them? have a look at the Power Kangas match, 5 goals down with 8 mins to go and just got pipped...

just a thought...

The only time I would have a complete walkout, is if I had a prior engagement that meant I was needing to leave early, win, lose or draw.

I don't think there's as much in the supporter leaving early thing as many make out ... If people leave early due to disgust in their team so be it .. The supporter has sacrificed their time off to experience something enjoyable and if they're not finding that, then I don't see the problem with them heading off to do something else.

my guess is they need a 19th player on the field... but yeah i thought the same thing, bar the Mcleod bit... but it made for good hassling when they all started leaving....

Every team in the AFL has fans that do this.

I have never ever walked out on a game early, being a Richmond fan I've sat through some absolute floggings over the years.

At 3/4 time of Round 2 2007 I thought "Gees! A lot of doggies supporters smoke." Nope they were leaving at 3/4 time. And in droves!

Ditto. Last year I sat at AAMI on my own when we played the Crows, rain, down by 11 goals at half-time, only kicked 1.5 or something ridiculous and I stayed.

Surely if you're gonna go to the game and your team is losing, you'd hang around to least try and find one positive from the performance, instead of jumping off the bandwagon.

With that being said, I'm debating whether or not to go this week. Saving the money could be useful, but if I go (which I probably will), I won't leave til the final siren goes.

Walking out before the game is over is poor, but this whole "number 19" thing is a quite frankly a load of shit, perhaps the Crows should worry about the 18 on the ground first and win a home game in season 2009 before focusing on the puff marketing. I've personally noticed an unsettling trend over the first few rounds of this season, possibly on account on the number 19 marketing thing. Some fans both on the radio and online seem to be intimating that the Crows losses are partiality the fault of the fans in attendance at the games, that the fans aren't "supporting" enough or in the "correct" manner. Honestly, if people wish to go to the football and sit spectating the game while listening the a radio call, that is their prerogative, they're paying fans, they're paying to see a spectator sport and if they don't want to cheer or yell, they don't have to, because they are paying for entertainment, they're paying to be entertained. Their cheering should not be required for the players to play at 100%, they're professional football players being paid alot of money to perform, and it is their job to perform and provide entertainment for the spectators. The spectators are not obligated to do anything other than buy a ticket, though I will say it is great when the crowd is behind the players and into the game, like the dream showdown, but they are in no way obligated.

Spectators should want to cheer, by viewing entertaining play and watching the Crows win, not through some half arsed forced marketing gimmick. It seems some people, especially those on a certain other poorer quality football discussion forum love to use the crowd as a whipping boy, in place of criticising the players. True atmosphere is created by viewing brilliant talent and play, not "We need you number 19" splashing on the big screen right after Michael Doughty has handpassed straight to another opposition player resulting in an opposition goal.

I used to leave Crows games at least 5 minutes early just about every game.
Leaving 5 minutes early would mean I was home an hour earlier and sipping coldies.
Its because its footy park. (and it would also matter as to where you live)
If it was a ground in the middle of town I'd stay later as it would be a lot easier to get out.
Its all relative, how much is an hour of your time worth?
Mine's worth a lot.

I used to stay later for Cats games as they usually had an aftermatch show at the Lakes or in the Stadium.

I remember once when the Cats were killing Port and the Port supporters were all leaving early, I'd had a couple and screamed at them all "At least you wouldn't see Crows supporters leaving early!"
The reaction was priceless but Mrs Wedgie thought we were going to die.

Crows fans at Footy Park are a disgrace and is why I haven't been to an AFL game in nearly 3 years. No wonder the vics give us shite when we act like that.


I have only walked out on Sturt once and that was the PF last year. F**K I was an angry man that day and it took me about 3 months to calm down from that one

Most people think that football loyalty should be a one-way street ie. fans being blindly faithful.
If you believe your club treats you like shyte or puts in sub-standard performances, then you have every right to walk out on them.

I was going to mention Blighty and his mate Reidy walking out early but then I re-read the first post and realised you're only taking about the fans, so it doesn't count.
