The AFL today announced a range of booking fees and transaction charges on AFL tickets will be reduced by up to 50 per cent in some cases from next season.
AFL Chief Executive Andrew Demetriou said the AFL had successfully reached agreement with Tickemaster on lowering charges on tickets for matches at the MCG and Telstra Dome for the 2006 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.
Mr Demetriou said the AFL had been in discussion with Ticketmaster for several months, working to ensure that the cost of going to the football at the two most-used grounds in the competition remained as low as possible, with minimal add-on charges for fans seeking to purchase tickets.
"A key plank of the AFL Commission's charter is to maximise attendances at all our matches and, after a record-breaking year in 2005, the AFL is determined that the game remains within reach of all fans," he said.
"The MCG and Telstra Dome will host 89 home and away matches in 2006, more than half of the regular season games to be played, and the AFL is pleased to announce this agreement with Ticketmaster, where we have negotiated reductions of nearly 50 per cent of fees in some cases."
Mr Demetriou said the changes were summarised as follows:
Pre-booking Fees
· General admission booking fee reduced by 47 per cent from $5.80 to $3.10 (Adults and Concession).
· Club Members designated seat on Level 3 (Telstra Dome) for ticketed matches reduced by 47 per cent from $5.80 to $3.10.
· AFL Member booking fee reduced by 16 per cent from $5.80 to $4.95.
· All other reserved seats booking fees, reduced five per cent from $5.80 to $5.50.
Transaction Fees
· Internet and IVR transaction fees abolished, $5.25 to zero.
Other ticketing fees
· All zone fees on interstate and country patrons abolished ($0.50 - $1.00 per ticket).
More than 80 per-cent of pre-booked tickets for AFL matches at the MCG and Telstra Dome are sold either via Ticketmaster outlets or booked online and Mr Demetriou said the cost of an average family ticket of four purchased in this manner would now reduce by $5.60 at an outlet (11 per cent reduction) or $10.85 via an internet booking (20 per cent reduction).
The AFL has also set its general admission prices for the 2006 season. Children's prices will remain unchanged at $2.20 for the sixth consecutive year while the Adult daily admission prices increases by $1 to $18.50. Concession prices will increase by 50 cents to $11.
