The AFL today announced a range of booking fees and transaction charges on AFL tickets will be reduced by up to 50 per cent in some cases from next season.

AFL Chief Executive Andrew Demetriou said the AFL had successfully reached agreement with Tickemaster on lowering charges on tickets for matches at the MCG and Telstra Dome for the 2006 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

Mr Demetriou said the AFL had been in discussion with Ticketmaster for several months, working to ensure that the cost of going to the football at the two most-used grounds in the competition remained as low as possible, with minimal add-on charges for fans seeking to purchase tickets.

"A key plank of the AFL Commission's charter is to maximise attendances at all our matches and, after a record-breaking year in 2005, the AFL is determined that the game remains within reach of all fans," he said.

"The MCG and Telstra Dome will host 89 home and away matches in 2006, more than half of the regular season games to be played, and the AFL is pleased to announce this agreement with Ticketmaster, where we have negotiated reductions of nearly 50 per cent of fees in some cases."

Mr Demetriou said the changes were summarised as follows:

Pre-booking Fees

· General admission booking fee reduced by 47 per cent from $5.80 to $3.10 (Adults and Concession).

· Club Members designated seat on Level 3 (Telstra Dome) for ticketed matches reduced by 47 per cent from $5.80 to $3.10.

· AFL Member booking fee reduced by 16 per cent from $5.80 to $4.95.

· All other reserved seats booking fees, reduced five per cent from $5.80 to $5.50.

Transaction Fees

· Internet and IVR transaction fees abolished, $5.25 to zero.

Other ticketing fees

· All zone fees on interstate and country patrons abolished ($0.50 - $1.00 per ticket).

More than 80 per-cent of pre-booked tickets for AFL matches at the MCG and Telstra Dome are sold either via Ticketmaster outlets or booked online and Mr Demetriou said the cost of an average family ticket of four purchased in this manner would now reduce by $5.60 at an outlet (11 per cent reduction) or $10.85 via an internet booking (20 per cent reduction).

The AFL has also set its general admission prices for the 2006 season. Children's prices will remain unchanged at $2.20 for the sixth consecutive year while the Adult daily admission prices increases by $1 to $18.50. Concession prices will increase by 50 cents to $11.

2006 TOYOTA AFL PREMIERSHIP SEASON – DAILY ADMISSION

§ Adult $18.50

§ Concession $11.00

§ Family - 2 adults, 2 children U/15 $37.00

§ Children U/15 $2.20

§ Children U/6 FOC

* All prices are inclusive of GST and exclusive of any ticket agent fees

* Family prices include 2 adults and 2 children.

Someone once said that they would never go to an AFL match unless if they got free tickets or guest pass etc. I'm pretty much in the same boat.

the AFL commision says about keeping the game in reach of all fans...... yeah, all fans in victoria!!!!!

If the AFL is working on an agreement with ticketmaster.... the agreement should be for all grounds and all matches.

Sometimes i think the AFL still thinks it's the VFL. They forget it's a nation wide competition.

Dogmatic, after reading your topic, i'm asking myself the same thing, what about footy park?.... and all the other grounds for the matter?

I rekon the SANFL is a top level of footy where the whistle tends to stay in the umps pocket!

I long ago stopped going to anything where the stated entrance fee was not the full all inclusive fee. Similarly, none of my credit cards have an annual fee and all have 55 days interest free, and I have not paid a bank fee on a personal account ever!

If anyone pays a percentage to sublet ticketting out it should be the people getting the money. For the same reason, in my businesses I never charge extra for payment by credit card even though it is now legal to do so - but I have screwed the bank providing my merchant services down to 0.81% anyway - if they want my business they make concessions to me!

Hang on, does anyone know the facts? I would expect that the venue (AAMI stadium) is controlled by the SANFL and they would negotiate the contract with the ticketing company. I doubt the AFL has any control over this one.
