Scrap it.
Nothing in principle against the idea, but find someone decent to listen to.

Good call. Listening to that bird Saturday night was crap. One tone. If they're good enough let em call but you cant give them a job just cause they're female.

I'll go into bat for Kelli here.
When has a person's ordinary voice stopped them from being a commentator?
Buckley, Whateley? Hudson sounds like a cartoon figure. Fleming in the cricket?
I'm sure Kelli will get better given more of an opportunity.
She found it hard to keep up with the pace of the game but, like a footballer, once she gets used to it, she will only improve.
Did she know her stuff? Yes.
Could she improve? Definitely.
You don't improve if you don't get another chance.
People are judging Kelli harsher because she is a woman. I'm sure most of you annoyed by Kelli's commentating would find a reason to gripe about any woman who took on the role.

I agree DW. I would much rather listen to her monotone call than Rex or Brian Taylor.
In time,as you said, when she picks up the pace of the game and can 'lift' the call when something special happens she will be much more 'listenable'. If they persist with her I think the change will be refreshing but if they cut her off after 2 or 3 calls it will spell the end for any station giving a female the chance to call ever again IMO.

Not at all DW. Would love to hear a female commentate. Just when I was listening to her on Saturday night there was no excitement in her voice. Like I said before all in one tone which makes it harder to watch/listen. Not judging her voice just her tone. If she doesn't appear to be excited by the game she is calling why should the viewer be excited??

Yeah I thinks it's fine.
It's not as if a lot of the male commentators are that special anyway.

If MC and I are agreeing then I think we are definately on the right track.
If Kelly and Robert Walls reproduced it would be the devil's spawn.

Gotta agree on something.

I thought the female boundary riders were better than Ricky Olarenshaw.
Mind you, I do enjoy laughing at his awkwardness.

Yep. Tiffany Cherry was a great boundary rider. Easy on the eye too.
I look at it this way.....if David Schwarz can commentate, anyone can!

I didn't hear Kelli's call, so I can't commentate of her ability.
But one thing I will say is there seems to be a changing of priority in a commentating role these days ... Instead of having commentators and then colour commentators, they've obviously been directed to incorporate it all into one package.
I guess the thinking is that close games will provide enough excitement on their own, but the one sided games need help to stay entertaining to a bigger audience.
It's a fine art and so few can do it I reckon, Ian Day (imho) was a master as he never let it interfere with calling the play, unlike the blokes today who don't have the nouse to pull it off*.
Im actually quite sick of all the gags and peripheral crap that comes from most commentators in this day and age ... Just stick to the footy related happenings.

Good call CP. Present day commentators talk during the whole match. Nothing wrong with a bit of silence every now and then.

Totally agree mate .. Could probably even tolerate the odd gag, but it seems as if every play they're trying to be comedians ... It's why Bruce is still the best TV caller imho.

Agreed.
Female commentators should be screwed and not heard. Most blokes turn on the footy to
avoid hearing a female voice.

Tough crowd! I thought the bits I heard were ok.......Instantly better than anything we have endured with SANFL coverage here on TV and Radio.
