Head in the sand....

Postby Rik E Boy » Sun Apr 30, 2006 8:45 am

While I have at times jokingly berated my fellow posters who 'hate' the AFL that they have a 'head in the sand' approach to football as it is today, they might not actually be alone judging by how the Footystapo at AWFUL House reaction to news that people have voted with their feet and remotes so far this season. It seems that crowds and TV ratings are dropping. What the AWFUL do when the game is critisied is point to these figures and claim the game is in great shape and pat themselves on the back. In this article there is NOT ONE reference to the 'keepings off', over-officiated style of game that has alienated many fans. Apparently the downturn is due to the carpiness of the Lions, the exciting tour of Bangladesh or poor Feng Shei at AWFUL House. Get your heads out of the sand becuase people are voting with their feet and it just isn't people who don't matter like the Sam Newman blimp, it is people who have regularly consumed your product. Get it right you nobheads and bring back the contest or continue to lose business.

The good news for those genuinely disaffected by modern football at the highest level is maybe, just maybe they might actually listen to the fans rather than saying 'Oh, it's not unusual for interest to drop off when a team is losing' because they are losing fans from every club, not just the Lions.
