Gone are the days where you hone in on local talent.. Neil Craig and his hench men decided to draft a bloke from Victoria who hasnt played football in 4 years???

It was Rendell's call firstly
Secondly, there's very good wraps on that particular lad from guys that have seen him play and know him.
Thirdly, it's not the Power or Crows responsibility to draft local or "hone in on local talent". Taylor Walker isn't local and most people reckon he's a pearler. If there's a local lad who's got potential he'll be playing SANFL like he would have even if he was rookie listed.
Lastly, the rookie draft is "punt" time. Across the league few rookies end up playing AFL (some do). As Rendell said he's a "project", so what? News flash = rookies are not on the main list they are developmental players.

I seriously can't understand the big deal being made on here (mostly over on the SANFL board) ... He's a Rookie selection, most of which are all project players!!
If one other poster is to be believed he has about %1 chance of making it - Even he doesn't, so be it he'll move on like 1000's of others before him have, but IF he can add the ability to his athleticism, maybe they score themselves a basement bargain?

It is a rookie selection and they are about trying to make someone an AFL footballer the crows have done fantastically in this area in the past and because it is not taking up a spot on the main list who cares if he fails. If he works out then great but it is no real loss if he doesn't.

well Ben Rutten and Nathan Bock, Jason Porplyzia all came off our rookie list Booney ... No premierships in the last 10 years but these three players, after being rookie listed, are the most likely too lead us to our next flag i think booney

they have done fantastically well at converting rookie listed players into very good AFL footballers. Agreed no premiership for a while but i still think that is an achievement of note.

With porplyzia's wet noodle shoulder he'll be lucky to last ten months let alone ten years.

I don't think Bock, Rutten or the porpus will be leaving anytime soon. What do you mean by that Bubbula?

You meen players that have left and really steped up like "whats his name' and "you know that other guy"
I think the crows strength is knowing when to let someone go before they hit the downward slope (as all players eventually do)
