Depends what you mean by continue through to the Power?

Imagine Port Magpies losing to Glenelg in a Grand Final by twenty goals. Yet this is what happened last year as unfortunately my mob has an unsettling resemblance to the Bays in terms of performing on the biggest day.

This 'Live the creed' move that the PAFC has made by going back to our 'roots' and our Black and White heritage is a strange one indeed.

For many years we have been moving away from this heritage to create our own new identity and now that attendances have slipped and membership dropped we are 'going back' to our original marketing tool, our heritage.

The solution is easy, win more games and more people will go to the football and more people will buy membership.I know lots of my fellow Portonians are somewhat confused by the move.

Heard on AA, that they were going too put 1870 on the jumpers to show the history.

Strange move. As you said Booney, need to get new fans, and doing stuff like this it won't happen,
especially with influences what they can't control i.e the hatred of Port from the SANFL getting
passed down through parents/friends etc....

Jabber that doesn't seem to be happenning though. I have several mates who hate Port with a passion, yet their kids barrack for them. Why? Because a player visited their school, they like the colours, that sort of thing. Completely independent of what dad tries to teach them  . It seems school support for Crows and Power is split 50/50 (I'll stand corrected). So I think the new fans will come on board regardless of whether or not there's an "1870" on the guernsey.

I assume the "creed" thing is to re-connect with the PAM people.

Personally, I think the club was on the wrong track trying to distance itself from the PAM. Everybody knows there's a link so to distance yourself makes it look like the PAM is something to be embarrassed about. It's heritage is from 1870 so promote it to the hilt I reckon, rather than try to sell yourself as a second Crows/composite side.

Yeah see that's weird, at my daughters school, I see almost as many "Victorian" team jumpers i.e Collingwood, Essendon, Carlton and hell even North Melbourne as I do Crows/Port. See more Adelaide United colours then any AFL team too....

My kids know if they ever barracked for Port they would need to find somewhere else to live

it's this lack of parental dscipline that allows kids to choose their team.
I would thrash my kids within an inch of their life if they dare thought about barracking for anyone other than NAFC.

Port has definately stuffed up, I was going to barrack for them from 2009 onwards but 4 numbers on their back relating to another club has put me off them now so Ive rejoined up with Geelong. ;)

Damned if you do, damned if you dont.

We go down the non-heritage path, move away from our history, attempt to cut links with our path and there are zero guarantees that this will attract new supporters and will almost guarantee pissing off a number of ready made Port Adelaide supporters - me included.

Go down the heritage path, recognise our history, promote it and we risk not getting random new supporters, but keep the current ones happy.

Personally, I cant believe that people would think its possibly a good idea for Port Adelaide to move away from being Port Adelaide. All jokes aside and talking seriously, what the hell is being Adelaide Crows mkII going to achieve for the footy club? Ill tell you what - sweet **** all. I cant believe that people think going down that path will lead them to more supporters and success. Why would someone support Crows-Lite when you can support the Crows?

In the end we'll see what happens, but people who hate Port arent going to suddenly love them if they go away from their roots and change to the SOuth Coast Power or whatever. Anyone that thinks so should seek medical attention.

So say we change the name of the club tomorrow to Southern Coast Power, all this people that hated Port Adelaide are gonna suddenly change their mind? Not gonna happen.

If Port are going to solidify their links with their heritage, then all they need to do is tough it out for another decade or so as the kids come through and have disposable incomes. The gap in support between the Crows and Power is pretty large if crowd numbers are anything to go by, but surely with the school age kids, the gap must be smaller.

Port Power have been around long enough for there to be a current generation who have no memory of them not being in the AFL.

Port do need to tough it out as suggested above, & put the hard yards in with the juniors in their area.
A couple of years ago as a thank you for one of our coaches helping out Granger in his situation Ebert bought out 5 Power players to talk to the juniors. They distributed a shitload of water bottles, posters, caps ect & the next week junior training was awash with new Port guenseys, we still have around 40% Port supporters in our junior ranks.
If Port could target say 20 junior clubs & 30 or so schools & visit them over a season, sounds hard but that's only one night a year for each club & the schools could be done in the daytime. Then Port could go a long way to reaching their 35k attendance goal sooner than later, remembering these kids will pester the parents to at least go to a couple of games a year. Hand out $100 worth of gear & junior membership forms each visit & Bobs your Auntys live in lover.
