Fair to say a little hype around the young blokes for the Crows next year.

Walker
Petrenko
Dangerfield
Kyte
Gallman

If all the potential (dangerous word) could be fulfilled, it could be a very exciting year for the supporters and the club.

Plus we are hoping for bigger things from Tippett, Moran and Sellar

Plus natural improvement from 2-3 year players in Knights, Douglas, Porplyzia, VB, Maric, Griffin, Jacky, Mackay, Vince

Dangerfield, Kite, Petrenko and Walker are the ones I am most excited about.

If everyone lives up to the hype/potential we'll be premiers! But we know that not all of them will .... my big hope season is 2010 when hopefully more of these lads hit some reasonable pay-dirt, than don't.

Apparently Walker has put on some bulk in the off season and i think with a solid pre season and improved work ethic he is a few SANFL bags away from selection.

Petrenko and dangerfield are the youngsters im excited about. I havent seen much of them but what i have seen they are quick and can break the lines. this is something adelaide needs pace and a type of X factor. Kite can also be put into this category with his pace.

Add Hentchsel back in i think will straighten us up a bit. He will have his doubters but you need a preseason to play without injury. he didnt have one and managed to get back on the field but then struck down. I think he will be back and prove alot of people wrong

Besides Porplyzia nobody in that 2-3 yr players group will be anything more than a list filler. What the Crows need are matchwinners and from what I can see Porps and Walker are the only ones who fit that bill. Petrenko and Dangerfield may fall into this category in the yrs to come.
Vince, Mackay VB etc are all reasonable AFL footballers but they aren't going to win you premierships.

That's a stupid comment

You could make the same comment about Sewell, Guerra, Gilham and a few other Hawks who are all now premiership players. You could almost say it about the entire Sydney 2005 premiership side. And no disrespect is intended to any of those guys BTW.

You don't need 15 "match-winners", you need maybe 4-5. Then equally importantly, you need 10-15 good AFL players who do their job week in, week out. If 2 of my list are matchwinners and the rest are the good, backbone players then we will be in the same boat as most other sides. Crows 97-98 had exactly that ratio of super-stars to good players.

You contradict yourself anyway - one sentence their "list fillers" the next they are "reasonable AFL footballers".

The above guys you mentioned aren't exactly the reason why Hawthorn won the GF either.
And the Swans won because of the likes of Nick Davis and Adam Goodes.
Crows currently besides Porps just don't have the matchwinners. All I was really saying is that matchwinners win you the big, important games and it has been proven over the past 5 years or so that the Crows just don't have these types of players.
I don't think you can honestly disagree with that.

"Stars" don't win matches, good teams do.
The so-called "match-winners" can tip the balance if the backbone players are doing a good team job.
Without that backbone the name players are ineffective against the overwhelming tide of a more effective team.

Walker should start from Rd. 1. Hentschel needs a few bags in SANFL.
Walker proved himself in SANFL finals.

Walker proved that when the ball hit the deck he could turn his slower sanfl level defenders inside out and kick a few. He still needs some bulk and a few more senior sanfl games under his belt. In my opinon at this stage he would be beaten by good AFL defenders. So let the kid develop his body first before you throw him to the lions.

Vince has matchwinning potential. He'll take another step up next year and surprise you mypaddock.

Mate, everyone calls Craig Mumbles but he is a beacon of exhurberance and crystal clear diction compared to 'our' very own Wayne Bennett. there are arguements for and against playing waker and not playing him. I think he will play all NAB cup games and if he proves himself he will line up round one.

Exactly. Redden whites - I suggest you watch that Showdown again. On two occasions he kicked crunch goals, one of them from outside 50 on the "Bermuda" side of the ground that many will argue gave us the crucial ascendancy required to withstand any final quarter assault from the Power. At a time when several of our personnel were getting knocked around (Bassett KO'd, Jericho flattened, Porplyzia's shoulder out of its socket, and Vince himself shirtfronted) he stood up and led our midfield from the front. If his BOG performance under such pressure doesn't demonstrate matchwinning potential then I don't know what does.

2008 was a breakthrough year for him but he's capable of lifting his game another cog. Continue having your doubts if you wish but if you see him putting up BOG performances in crunch games down the track, there's no reason to be surprised.
