Marketing Port

Is this the kind of thing that is going to encourage more support and membership sales?
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=wiyI9QThP5IPersonally I'd think Fos would be rolling in his grave seeing the so-called creed being used in this manner but if the Port fans are happy with it, then that's their business. I think it's a bit cheesy along the lines of that giant styrofoam fist doing the rounds. Port are missing an opportunity to be an "old school club" and cater to the footy fan who rails against this kind of American style promotion and game day entertainment.

I don't think any AFL club can afford to limit their appeal to the "purists" or "old-school" fans only. Do that and watch all the kids disappear off to other clubs.
On the You tube clip:
It depends how they are going to use it. That looks like a leaked Board presentation.
I'll wait and see it's final form and how it links in with their overall marketing for 2009, before judging it. Would it would work OK if the whole crowd chanted it? Possibly would. It's not too bad IMO. I think returning to the Port Adel Magpie roots is a good move.

Yes, I needed a new paragraph and better intro to that statement.
I was actually talking more generally about their new approach to link back to the PAM, not necessarially about that clip .... except for it's reference to Fos Williams

Fair enough. That make more sense cos that clip would not have been tolerated by the Port Magpies of old i am sure.

Spot on Psyber. That's what they'd want.
You're not going to convince too many more non-Port supporters to switch now. Time to focus on the kids who have no idea about the club's history and the hatred other clubs feel for Port.

Its nowhere near as bad at that tripe the Eagles put out a couple of years back. That was an embarrassment to the SANFL

Even kids cringe at some things.
It's like your granddad trying to rap.

They did a story on the channel 9 news tonight. Was funny watching Kym Dillon trying not to laugh after it finished

She has certain assets that appeal to me.
Look, in the modern day AFL world clubs need to do all they can to create an attractive 'product' ( I hate that term in a football sense) to get people to come to games. More so Port Adelaide who have been struggling to break 30,000 over the last few years at home games.
Now if some bloke trying to be Robert Plant heading up a Twisted Sister anthem gets bums on seats, so be it.
Port Adelaide cop much ridicule for things that they try at times but I for one am happy to be 'out there' trying new things to develop a new supporter base. Im not so sure trying to embrace the Port Adelaide of old is going to work, more so because we spent some time trying to establish a new identity only to now look back to our roots and go a little more black and white about things.
I know at my sons school there would be a near 50/50 split of Power/Crow kids ( discounting the Cat/Hawk bandwaggon jumpers, but they are kids, good luck to them) and in 5-10 years time I see Port having (with some on field success to comliment it,I hope) a much younger and stronger supporter base. When we went into the AFL the thinking was in 10-15 years the younger fans who had no Magpie hatred in their blood would perhaps move away from the sterile lifeless and at the time homeless Adelaide consortium to a club with heritage and a supporter base that showed where we had come from, this is proving to take much longer and I think it should have been estimated at 20 years + for this to happen.
I could think of worse tunes to sing in my head...

This concurs with what I hear from mates with kids at school. Very few go for teams other than Crows or Port (thank god!

) and the rest are 50-50 split it seems. So in time the supporter base will pick up the longer they stay in the comp. It's our generation that has all the hatred and I don't think it's passing down to our kids despite the best efforts of some parents!
So, to me, there's only a short term gap they need to fill up. My take on the new marketing strategy is that the club is trying to fill this gap by wooing back the old PAM supporters who have felt disconnected from the Power. Surely if all the old PAM supporters got on board they would get 35-40K to AAMI each game.
Booney, do you think this is the reason for the new strategy and do you think the disconnected PAM supporters will come over to the Power?

Is it just me or has the club lost the plot since Bucky left?
Running around like a headless chook.
I honestly don't know what the PAFC stands for at the moment.
Reminds me of a $2 variety store - cheap, nasty and tacky.
...disconnected PAM supporters will come over to the Power?
Then there's the supporters the club disconnects with every ridiculous marketing scheme.
Bad as that song is, it's hard to go pass the Mardi Gras float embarrassment...

Those PAM fans who have no affinity, and indeed some hate the Power as muc has any Crow fan, will IMO never 'come back' to following the Port Adelaide Football Club in its AFL guise.
I think that is what they are trying to do though, get 10,000+ Magpie fans who now go to neither games ( Power or 'Pies ) to head to Footy PArk instead of stay home. IMO,it wont work and is the wrong way to go. The faithful that decided to follow in the AFL journey are on board and there to stay, those that decided to stay at the grassroots ( I dont understand why but appreciate their right to do so nonetheless) will stay as they are.
It was the right time IMO to make or continue the move away from black and white base, but this produces another problem,if you move away from it does that mean it does not get the same acknowledgment/ respect that it deserves. Glad I dont make the choices.....a marketing nightmare.
