First impressions for Richmond:

Less games relying on Foxtel broadcasts - more free-to-air. 6 Fox, 16 Free-to-Air.

9 day break between Round 1 and Round 2 demolition at the hands of the catters at KP.

9 day break between Round 2 and Round 3 to take on the Bullies in a Monday game.

1 Thursday Night, 2 Friday Night and 6 Saturday Night, and 1 Sunday Twilight game (10 night games in total) - 12 day games (7 on Sundays).

Play Carlton, Bulldogs (Rounds 3 and 11), Melbourne, North Melbourne, Sydney, Essendon, WCE twice. Without being arrogant, I would expect to notch up at least 7 wins with wins against Carlton (once), Melbourne (twice), Essendon (twice) and WCE (twice).

Only one trip to AAMI Stadium - to play the Power on a Sunday afternoon (good chance to get another win)

Only two home games at Telstra Dome (or whatever it's called now), with one home game in the Gold Coast (vs Adelaide), and 8 home games at the MCG.

Blockbuster HOME fixtures against Carlton, Essendon and Collingwood - all at the MCG - Kerrrrrrching $$$.

5 trips out of Melbourne to Gold Coast (home game), Sydney, AAMI, Subiacao (twice).

not happy with the 2 evening games in Melb for the crows means i can do a day trip. Think crows have an ok draw travel isnt to bad and if there good enough to beat the top 4 teams from this year they will make the finals again and if they cant beat them they prob shouldnt be in top 8 anyway.

Thought this was interesting to see on the AFL Website, clearly no more North Melbourne games at Carrara, yet Carlton, St Kilda and Richmond have taken the opportunity to play a "Home" game there!

I am tipping that when the VFL became the AFL, not to many people would have thought that Carlton one of the "Big Three" Sides in Melbourne would end up resorting to selling its home games interstate! - Still all the more reason to book a Qld holiday if you barrack Carlton I suppose!

That'd be the KG way of looking at it, the more balanced way of looking at Collingwood's draw would be to realise they only have a genuine home state advantage for 5 games, unlike Port or Adelaide who have it for 10 games a year.

It all balances out.

Admittedly they do have a 'slight' advantage in that they play 4 matches out of Victoria and 5 interstate sides in Victoria but that's due to their ability to draw in blockbusters so good luck to them.

Only team to have a genuine gripe as per usual is Geelong who play 8 games with a home town advantage and 14 with an away team disadvantage and all finals out of their own city but that's OK, they'll just get on with it and not whinge like so many others do.

Yeah that is stupid. Carlton met Hawthorn for the first time in round 22. This year it works out we see these teams for the first time...

Doesn't look too bad for us TB, I hate us playing home games at the Dome so to only get two is pleasing. To not pull Geelong or Hawthorn twice, while getting Melbourne, West Coast, Essendon & Carlton more than once is even better. The draw wants us to play finals in 09, although I'm sure we can fail to live up to potential again.

And I can rock up to the one game we play at AAMI two seconds before the bounce and still get a decent seat...

Have to agree. The issue is the almost 3 hour transit to and from (incl time to airport, waiting for plane, plane trip, travel to hotel) plus, in some cases, doing it all again to go home the same night. And that's just for the Adelaide teams.

I'd trade a "home state advantage" for an interstate trip every time. Let's see ... choose from:

1 Travel interestate 10 times; OR
2 Play fellow-state teams 13 times (ie, lose "home state advantage" for 13 of the 18 games you play in your home state)

Having said that, all teams have interstate travel down to a fine art these days so it's less of an issue that it used to be.

I went to the Ess v Coll match at the MCG this year and Ess supporters would have outnumbered Coll supporters 4-1 easily

I went to the Ess v Coll match at the MCG this year and Ess supporters would have outnumbered Coll supporters 4-1 easily
