On Grand Final day when the great Luke Hodge got the Norm smith Gary Ablett broke out in tears, he didnt when they lost there 2nd game in 15months but he does when he gets the only single award on the day and then Brownlow night kicks the table when he does not recive a vote in rd 22 is he playing for himself or the Geelong FC? Career wont pass 28yrs old Thats my guess

yeah it is all a bit about G Ablett at the moment but think bommer will fix that over summer.
Would he ever leave Geelong?

Pretty rough on the guy. Sure he has shown emotion but he's a super player. Had the rest of the Geelong side put in as much as he did on Grand Final day my Hawks would not have won. Unfortunately for him Hawthorn followed Luke Hodge's example whereas not enough of the Cats followed Ablett's. Hodge the deserving winner of the Norm Smith but Ablett is a superstar nonetheless.

can't even win the cats b&f (went to joel corey tonight) so he shouldn't be whinging. All he needs to do is look at guys like r. harvey and and s. west to recognise that personal awards don't mean a heel of alot without team success. Maybe when geelong start struggling again he realise what a fool he is being, although it is funny to watch.

What a shocking thread. Seriously you blokes* do not have a clue. Gablett finished at 28? Also, was he the only one upset..maybe the Cats had 22 blokes gutted about missing out on Normie. Fair dinkum!

Crikey, I get canned for not being emotional and Gaz Jnr gets canned for being emotional.
You just cant win!
PS The way the club does votes for the BandF means you can virtually never miss 4 or 5 games and win one, the Brownlow is voted on completely differently. You'd have to be devoid of any mathematical skills not to work that one out.

Agreed- shocking thread. Reckon when you lose a Granny the last thing you are worried about is an individual honour!
FFS- Ablett is clearly the cats best player. GF day emphasised that.

Ablett's a champion footballer, I don't give a stuff if he shed a tear or when he shed it. Footy's an emotional game sometimes. Anyone getting stuck into Ablett needs to take a bit of a look at themselves. There wouldn't be a football club in Australia who wouldn't move mountains to have Ablett on their list.

I'd love to have Ablett play for the Lions.
I thought it was great for him to show emotion when he didn't win the awards.
Everyone wants to win individual awards, no matter what they say.
When you are favourite to win 2 years in a row, why wouldn't you be disappointed?

I had a tear run down my cheek as well at the G on Satdee, does mean Geelong is all about me?

I reckon it's great to be upset at missing personal awards, you can all say it's about the team etc but in the end if you wer CLEARLY BEST ON GROUND and missed out you'd be just as upset.

IMO Ablett is destined never to win a Brownlow like other great players in their generations like Matthews, Carey etc who clearly dominate and for reasons only known to the Umps get ignored for votes.

Ablett wasn't completely ignored, remember he only lost the Brownlow by a vote to Cooney! Missing the four games really killed him, like Wedgie mentioned in another thread somewhere. I believe he would have easily polled the one vote in those games he missed that he required to win.

The most stupid thing about this thread is that it's based on the speculative assumption that Ablett's tears were directly caused by Hodge's announcement as Norm Smith medallist.
With all that had happened in the previous 2 1/2 hours only Ablett himself knows what created the waterworks. My guess is that it was more to do with HIS TEAM losing the GF.
You can't hang a guy on such circumstantial evidence. As for the Brownlow thing, geez anybody up there at the end would be privately barracking for themself in what is an individual award.

didn't get injured would have won the Brownlow by 5 votes quite simple really and you would never get a better team player or clubman either from what I have heard from people I know tied up with Geelong, so you doubters get off the grass
