Allegedly wants to return home to Melbourne and is out of contract ... Potentially a big blow for the Swans I would have thought as they could receive little to no compensation for arguably their best player?

This is the part about AFL that really burns me. Over the years we've seen top players decide they want to leave so they just get up and go. That would be okay, but the club they leave usually ends up getting stuff all in comparison. The AFL really needs to look at ways to suitably compensate a club in these circumstances.

O'Keefe's probably agreeing to a vice-presidency in one of Pratt's companies as we speak.

Vice Presidency? Nah Judd's the Vice President, Fev's the Deputy Vice, so maybe he'd be a Junior Deputy Vice.......

very good player. Think he'll prob go to Carlton, Pies or Rich. Only wants to play with a side that may have a chance playing finals. If Carlton get him and Kerr, gee they must be doing something right with their salary cap!

And only teams who think they are in a "window" will want him anyway .. luckily for him there's a few of those in Melbourne currently

He'll be a very good pick-up as he's a quality player who, because of his age, will come cheaply unfortunately for the Swans .... he could be the next Stewey Dew

I wonder if the Cats might even look at him after the performance of their forward line on Saturday :-k

I thought I read somewhere, that he spent some underage time down Geelong way (with one of the lads who went off the rails a little, maybe Ezra Bray)?

Cats probably have enough younger blokes there to interest Sydney, who need to get the age of their list down I would have thought?

Agreed Dutchy- I reckon someone like the Roos may push for him- to replace Shannon Grant possibly?

These are both very good points and I agree, Geelong is a perfect fit for O'Keefe.

I am not 100% sure how these guys are travelling at Geelong, or if they would be perceived by other more astute Geelong supporters as required players, but potential trades may be Kane Tenace or Shannon Byrnes. Maybe even Varcoe or Stokes?

Agreed. If I were organising Geelong's list for 2009, I'd shift heaven and earth to secure O'Keefe. From a Hawks point of view I hope that doesn't happen :)

Where would O'Keefe fit into Geelong's side? With Chapman, Stokes and Johnson all small-medium forwards, and not to mention they'd be almsot using every inch of the salary cap as it is, I wouldn't think he'd head there. They need a key forward to play out of the goalsquare as Lonergan is no matchwinner.

I wouldn't mind having him at Richmond, but much like Geelong, we need a key forward, as Richo is almost done and I don't know how good Hughes will be.

A lot will depend on Cousins as well, if Collingwood don't get him I could see them making a play for O'Keefe. Rocca, Cloke, Medhurst, Anthony, O'Keefe, Davis. Pretty decent forward line that one.

IF the Pies were to retain Didak, wouldn't that give them the same you problem you mentioned for the Cats, in trying to squeeze O'Keefe, Didak, Medhurst and Davis in the same forward line?

Are you seriously suggesting that Stokes would keep O'Keefe out of the team?

O'Keefe is a far better player than Stokes, and on Par with Chapman and Johnson.

Geelong may be trumped anyway.

Syndey's leadership group has been down to meet with Andrew Lovett. Looks like O'Keefe may be heading to Essendon as part of a trade involving Lovett and another player, possibly Brent Stanton.
