Crowds for AFL finals

Robert Walls grudgingly admitted on 5AA that he was disappointed with the crowds to the finals last weekend - 42K to WB/Syd and 76K to Coll/StK. He felt another 10-15K should have gone to the Sat night match
Given that some of these attendees were MCG members and AFL season ticket holders, etc I wonder how many "paying on the night" customers went?
He then said he felt that the prices might be too high and should be looked at
Are we finally getting some sensible discussion on AFL crowds? Maybe this weekend will correct things ...

If it's admission prices that's the issue then it's an important discussion. Apart from that I really don't understand why people get so head up over attendances. The important thing these days is how many are watching on TV. That's where the real money is. I really don't think the AFL care less if only 42,000 went to the Bulldogs/Swans game.

Maybe the fact that this has been the worst finals series I can remember has something to do with that?
For perhaps the first time ever, I've been bored by AFL finals.

You mean you enjoyed all the massive thumpings last year?

Re quality of AFL Finals
Finals are often blow outs. You aren't going to get gold nuggets every time like some finals series of recent seasons. When you think about we've been a bit spoilt by some of the finals of the this decade. Think back to the 90's, there were a shitload of hidings back then, especially in Grand Finals (no thanks to the Cats!)
The Adelaide v Collingwood final was not a dud. First the Pies came out and then the Crows hit back with arguably one of their best quarters for the year. Then Collingwood hit back and the Crows couldn't mount a second raid.
Despite the lack of numbers the Roos vs. Sydney final wasn't a dud either. The Roos looked like doing the job early and then Sydney came out and played some watchable football for a change.
I thought Geelong v St Kilda wasn't a dud either. True it was a one sided game but some good footy was being played. The Collingwood v Saints game was also a pretty good one.
What happens is that when one team gets a match winning lead then the game can have an ordinary final result, but that doesn't mean it isn't good footy.
Spoiled Children!

REB

3 out of 9 ain't bad I suppose. The other 6 were some of the biggest floggings in AFL history.

Only a Geelong supporter would think that. I thought the Hawks v Bulldogs game was pretty good as well
