Freo - giving the anchor the Heave Ho?

FREMANTLE'S club song, logos and even team colours will be reviewed. And the Dockers' controversial anchor symbol is also set to be hotly debated. It has been a widely held view that association with an anchor has weighed down ambitions for success at Fremantle.

New chief executive Steve Rosich will present a full business and marketing strategy to Fremantle board of directors and his senior staff early next year.

"Even though we've got a short history of only 14 years, there's respect you have to have for that when we are considering changes,'' Rosich said.

"I really like our jumper design and our brand elements that we do have.

"But what I have resolved is to work with the board, our management staff and stakeholders to sit down early next year and have a look at our club brand values"

"Once we've solidified those we can revisit our brand elements such as our song, jumper and logos.

"We want them to reflect what we want the brand elements to be in the future.

"Brand elements are all things that supporters hold sacred, like colours, the jumper, the song and logos.''

Purple, green, red and white-how could they be held sacred? They dont go together, anywhere anytime, let alone on a guernsey.

Heave Ho, Freeeoooo-makes stop,stop,stop sound good,no,it really does. 8)

An Anchor- why not make it a steaming pile,as that is how they play most of their games.

Its a really good decision to change it all the only thing I wouldn't change is the colour purple as n one else has it. And haveing a go at their song is priceless from a port supporter.

Good on the club - the current look is now widely associated with ridicule and failure so I think a fresh start is definitely needed.

Sorry Kicker - personally I think the purple has to go, yesterday. I can't see how a team can be taken seriously in purple.

Those that follow the NFL will know that 3 teams (Bucanneers, Broncos & Patriots) underwent major image transformations and won 6 Superbowls between them afterwards. All 3 had fairly week/insipid colour schemes (2 were mostly orange  ) but emerged with very strong "looks". That's not to say that changing the uniforms was the sole reason for the later success but it does indicate a strong commitment to a new order and a fresh start.

Never say sorry for what you think if it what you believe then stick to your guns.
And I don't give a toss for the Floppers one little bit at all. I couldn't care if they didn't play another game.
I think what they are doing it good, who the hell is scared of a bloody anchor. They need something to be proud of and what they have isn't smething to write hom,e to mum about.

Those that follow the AFL know that a team wears the same colours as a packet of Fruit Tingles with the laughable assumption that they represent the whole state. Who gives a 5hit about the colours? If you keep hiring has beens and never wasses like Freo do then you win squat no matter what the jumper looks like.

Personally, they should keep the Purple & Green.
No other team in the AFL has those colours and the new GC17, have the
same colours (or variations) as the Crows/Fitzroy...
Purple & Green is a good combo though (Wmbledon anyone).

Just get rid of the Anchor and get another logo...

It's Freo's administration that needs the heave ho. No matter what the jumper looks like, no matter what the club song sounds like, if you recruit well, enact sound list management, adopt effective coaching strategies and create a stable environment, you will eventually have success. Freo have completely wasted 14 seasons of football and it will be a long time before the football world takes them seriously ... anchor or not.

The Freo Consistentlystuffingupmyfootytips - their emblem has to be something that disappoints.

In seriousness though I wouldn't think the anchor would be a problem. Playing in that all white thing isn't the best though. I would've thought an away guernsey making use of the green and possibly red or purple (even though Green and Red looks pretty ordinary) would be a better option.

Either way, it will be interesting to see what comes of the review. Hopefully a new song!

As if the players look at the emblem and think, 'oh we've got an anchor in our jumper, I'm going to go out and play like a leper'.

The only thing I like is the purple&green.
It's unique to the AFL but they should consider a different design.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.
