Who is on the chopping block?

With talk in the Sunday Mail this morning from both Rod Jamieson & Chris McDermott that the Crows need a clean out who does everyone think the Crows will delist or offer up for trade?
Ken McGregor looks all but gone but I think that the following players will come under scrutiny and could be offered up as trade bait: -
Kris Massie
Rob Shirley
Luke Jericho
Chris Knights
Graham Johncock
Brett Reilly
Michael Doughty
James Sellar
Trent Hentschel

Probably gone:
Kenny -too slow for AFL level
James Sellar -hasn't progressed much
Luke Jericho -wasteful of his talent, doesn't work hard enough
Probably retain:
Kris Massie & Michael Doughty -Dumb & Dumber: bad decision making makes them frustrating players
Rob Shirley -only for his tagging ability
Nick Gill -injury prone and dodgy skills, but great when firing
Will retain:
Chris Knights -bit of a favourite at West Lakes, but I don't really rate him
Graham Johncock -went off the rails 2nd half of the year, but too good to discard
Brett Reilly -stuggled after injury layoff, better than Knights IMO
Trent Hentschel -big question over his body holding up, Crows will bet it will

Neil Craig .
His finals record as a coach is terrible . The players just dont respond to his coaching style and he hasnt moved with the times relying on defensive , tempo football .
Might of been a different story 2008 with Ben Hudson , Scott Welsh & Marty Mattner still in the 22. Not a wise move Craigy.

Here here, I couldn't have said it better myself!!!
The scientist may know how to get his players into finals contention, but when it comes to winning finals, he fails as bad as Chris McDermott's articles!
Crows will not, repeat, will not win a premiership under the lead guidance of Neil Craig.
Put him back in his place as an Assistant Coach or Rehab Coach!

Add in the retirements of Basset and Biglands.
So in summary:
Bassett
Biglands
Massie
Jericho
Sellar

We have to look at the future fitness prospects of both Burton and Goodwin in view of their age and injuries.
McLeod is still playing well in bursts, but doesn't have the stamina to perform at the same level for a full match now.
What are their roles in 2009 - any predictions?

I think you have it right except for James Sellar, hes a 19 yr old and big guys always take a couple of extra years to develop, would be stupid not to persist with him for another year!
Reilly just needs some luck with injuries and after a full preseason will be a powerhouse midfielder.
Probs the only trade you would look at would be kerr, unless a key forward comes up which i dont think will happen. Also the crows will not be trading draft picks for players due to the concessions on the draft the GC get in the next few years, the turn over of players in the next few years as well as last year will be huge and i dont care what the club calls it but we are rebuilding, give it 3 years and with talent on our list we will be a threat IMO!

Problem with that list mate, is that in the majority of cases, who would take them?
Massie - A "Useful" type with limited ability time left in the game
Shirley - Ditto
Jericho - Been in system long enough and had plenty of opportunity over the years
Knights - Would attract some interest, not 1st round type of interest though
Johncock - IMHO best player on this list, again would have value but not early pick
Reilly - Not a star, would probably have someone interested in him for cheapish/late pick
Doughty - Too old
Sellar - Not done anything for anyone to cough anything of value up for him
Hentschel - Injury would removed his value.
The names just aren't big enough to get any decent draft picks for them (particularly in light of the GC picks announced) and if anything would probably be like for like players.
Crows best/only hope of improving their list, is to build it via the draft imho.

The teams from 6th down will get no favours from rival clubs as all teams try and hold on to what they have got.I would be surprised if any club (other than Freo) has a real clean out in the next year or two as it will be a case of better the devil you know...

Trent Hentschel - Crows could not possibly expect him to do much more than what he did this year, he got back on the park and had no serious injuries, I cant believe people are putting him up as a delisting, give him a full preseason and could be very handy next year....

crows will need to trade players they want. with players like kerr, thompson and others. so there will be key players not there next season.
Add Kite, Armstrong and Gallman as well with Kite may be rookie listed to give ability to have more draft picks. there will be atleast 8 changes.

Reckon the only hope (and the chances may be buggerall anyway) we have of improving via trade, would be if we were able to land a Griffen or Pavlich who wanted to head back home.
As an aside, with blokes like Goodwin, McLeod and Edwards to depart soon, the Crows must surely have some decent Salary Cap space?

That may well be the opposite CP,many older players at the end of 3 or 4 year deals tend to have thier monies 'back ended' so they get the bulk of that money at the end of the deal.I think Adelaide's pennie pinchers would have been smart enough to forecast the imminent departure of all three and the money would be evenly distributed.Adelaide have also been happy to say in the past the money their top 4 or 5 earn is not that of what other clubs pay to the top players.Perhaps this is why Adelaide have never been seen as 'top heavy' on the money list and in the last 5 years it would be difficult to guess who they have as the top paid player on the list.
I heard Robert Walls suggest Jeff Farmer was on such a deal, back ended, and this season earnt in the vicinity of $700k !! Value for money,I think not.

Yeah but thats my point Booney, if they are indeed back ended, surely the next season or 2 see's some decent $$ open up for the moo-moo's?
Looking through the list you wouldn't see too many individuals that should be commanding big dollars (read: Franchise player dollars) ... Thompson would probably be the highest paid (and needs to perform better IMHO if that is in fact the case, but thats a seperate matter)

Kite haven't seen enough of him to comment.
I saw at the end of yesterday's game at Westies there was a bloke in the stands with a page of notes and Gallman's name at the top of the page.
Armstrong????? who the hell is he? has he played a SANFL League game yet?

Agree with Neil Craig. Can teach football, but doesn't coach well.
Doesn't react fast enough to game changes.
Leon Davis' first quarter destroyed Adelaide.
Why the runner wasn't out after Davis had 5 offensive touches in the first 5 minutes to put Shirley on him is beyond me.
Had minimal impact after the first quarter, but the damage was done.

Andrew McLeod's game was one of the worst performances I've ever seen by the great man.
Eight (?) clangers by a man you simply don't expect errors from.
Brad Moran: any thoughts on him? Shows potential but also made some terrible decisions.

Yeah, and I don't think any of the three were any more outstanding with the new clubs.
Hudson performed better for the Crows than he did with the Bullies - presumably the "off field issues" were better controlled before he decided he was a star, and irreplacable.
Welsh is in the Jericho class - patchy performer and front-runner.
Mattner was a useful player, but patchy, and I think Symes more than replaced him.
