Talk on the national game

Western Bulldogs

I know that Geelong has been going along beautifully recently, and gaining most of the "improved" accolades, but the Bulldogs have been ultra-impressive these past two weeks.
I think that the Bulldogs can match Geelong in just about every position on the ground, especially once Luke Darcy is back in the side. Geelong are a great side, and before Round 2 their only downfall seemed to be their lack of a true key forward but it looks like Kinglsey could fill that role. Probably the only edge the Catters have over the Bulldogs is experience. Although they probably haven't got a true key forward either, they proved in Round 1 that they are more than capable of kicking massive scores.
I am tipping these two teams to either go close to or probably make the grand final. I am eagerly awaiting the game between these two sides saturday week.

You think Kingsley might be the key forward that Geelong need,I know of a bloke called Ottens and another called Playfair who go alright too.

One thing I am looking forward to is the Bulldogs playing a team with a defensive unit, because Richmond and Melbourne have been poor in the back half for a couple of years now.The Dogs look good,no doubt, but they are yet to be tested in any way. They might also find all the run out of the back half dry up a bit when an opponent with two tall forwards to check makes them restructure a bit.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

I don't think that Ottens or Playfair are the type of key forward in the Tredrea, Hall, Pavlich, Brown mould that I was talking about. I think of the three, Kingsley shows the most potential to be as good as those guys, but none of those three could be spoken about in the same breath as those top 4....yet.

You are right about the Bulldogs though, as not yet being tested. I think they may be streched a little against Essendon having to find those who are able to match up and be accountable for Lloyd & Lucus, but the true test will be against Geelong in the coming games.

The reason why Kingsley will kick more goals this season is because of the presence of Ottens and to a lesser extent Playfair up forward. In the past Kingsley has been the main main and has drawn the biggest strongest defender which has kept Kingsley to an average of about three goals a game. If you have a Playfair or Ottens to worry about as well as Kingsley, more often than not your strongest defender won't be on Kent.

I am looking forward to the Bulldogs game as well as they have us covered for pace but I believe the big advantage that Geelong have over the Dogs at the moment is depth. At the moment the Dogs have Darcy out but the Cats went in last week against the Roos without Playfair, Byrnes, Riccardi, Kelly and Harley. If the Dogs lose five there is no way they can remain up where they are now. Geelong has been rebuilding for about three seasons more than the Bulldogs and as such have bigger bodies which is what is needed to sustain a running game plan come September.

The Bulldogs took a while to get going last year and have carried that form into this season but I'm tipping that by Round 16 there will be more than one very sore body out at the Whitten Oval and that they might fall away as Geelong did in 2002. I hope the Dogs make the eight because they are exciting to watch, unlike the Eagles and the Cows.

regards,

REB

Would like to see how the Bullies game plan holds up against a top 4 side that will put them under pressue for 100 minutes

They could of done no more then win the first two games, but in saying that the Tigers and Dees are not the hardest working sides going around.....

While I do agree with that comment mate, what I like about the Bulldogs is how 'second tier' players (if you like) like Hargreave, McMahon, Boyd and Griffen (looks like he's going to be a gun) have come along and I think Morris, Harris, Eagleton, Robbins, Hahn, Giansirucusa and Cross are very underrated and I don't think two of their better players from last year in Gilbee and Cooney have hit their straps yet.

A guy who I think will be a good player in Farren Ray and Brett Montgomery have not been able to break into the side yet and exciting project player Tom Williams is still waiting in the wings.

Hooray!

I'm that thrilled and excited about the first two games, i have got the DVD copy of both games.

If nothing else, they are exciting to watch.

Just a pity that Darce will miss the whole year, our ruckmen fall away pretty quickly, with Skipper and Streeta barely ok on a good day.

How about Will Minson? He looks like he could be a good ruckman.

I also thought that Darcy would be back towards the end of the season, but as Borat suggests he won't be back at all. Can anyone confirm this?

Not back this year as he did his knee in January.Would be foolish after re-con number two to rush back in.
