Will Trent Hentschel be offered another contract?

I think the AFC will offer Trent another contract, although it will be a 1 year peformance based contract!

Lets hope we can see Trent back playing AFL in '09!

I think it will largely depend on how Gill, Tippett and co. perform over the next few weeks as well. Has anyone else come back from 2 years out of the AFL with injury and had an impact?

This has come up on BigFooty where they seem in a very ruthless mood - on Trent and on Nick Gill

My view is that we need all the key forwards we can get and if there's still a good chance he can return to full fitness then it seems crazy to delist him

Altho I would agree with a 1 year deal, just in case

It's interesting that there doesn't seem there is a lot of delisting options but it will be interesting to see how they handle the older players. It's a a good sign for the list however this year's draft sounds like it will be a good one.

I think Trent can come back. He has played some footy this year without a pre season and as a result has had soft tissue injuries. You will find these injuries with anyone that hasnt prepared there body properly to play at the intensity required. He showed glimpses of form and what he can do and i think with a solid pre season he can get back to playing with the AFC.

Nathan Brown has come back and it has taken time and he is still a quality player

True but..........Hentschel as good as he is/was he isn't exactly in the class of a Nathan Brown.

This is a very good point. Brown was well established and a proven performer before he had his injury. Hentchell was a very promising prospect but far from an established star.

A very interesting question .Trent seems to be struggling and when fit comes down with more injuries ,perhaps the jury is out on this one .
But when the media(mainly on AA ) was calling for his inclusion in the crows team .They could not have seen him play at league SANFL level .

Cheers

I think that is realistic. Although he wasn't a consistent winner, he did produce some very good performances. It would be worth another year on that type of contract, providing there is room in the list, and it would not mean giving up a more promising prospect.

Simple, trade Gill and Trent to Brisbane for Jonothan Brown. Easy. I'm sure Leigh would gobble that trade up.

No thanks. Brown's future fitness has to be questionable. Best to develop juniors, rather than make the "Carey" mistake again..

Whilst the Brown for Gill and Hentschel was no doubt meant in jest, are you seriously saying you wouldn't take JB?

Brown is 26. Hentschel and Gill are both 25 and their future fitness is not questionable? What a ridiculous statement. Brisbane would laugh at such a poor trade offer

What if the Crows throw in Mcgregor as well??  You still wouldn't do the trade if you were Leigh.

Was very much in jest. But to say you wouldn't take JB in silly, a "carey" mistake??? He was 30 and had a year off football. Even if Brown was not fit, him at FF looks pretty appealing. As for the real debate, Trent will get a 1 year deal next year and if plays well and body holds up, will get a 2 - 3 year deal.

JB has seemed to have recurrent fitness problems, and that is an issue of concern regardless of his age. He has played in a position and context where his body has taken a lot of punishment in a short time and how much he can recover is uncertain, no matter how young he is. That raises the question of whether he would be worth what it would cost to get him, and whether that money would be better spent on developing new recruits.

Hentschel and Gill are here, and relatively inexpensive, and worth working with until better options are found and developed. I suspect that Hentschel may never come up fit enough to return to AFL, but it is worth a little longer on a relatively inexpensive performance based contract to see what happens.

The "Carey mistake", I don't want repeated, was taking on a known to be recurringly injured "star" player. Age has nothing to do with it.
If the Crows were going to buy a "star" I'd rather Pavlich, but I'd rather we develop a team than try to buy a "star".

Most Likely. Trent Hentschel didnt do all that much before he did his knee, he was only just starting to make a regular appearance in the team.

I reckon he actually gave the Crows plenty, particularly as he was playing as their prime forward with the best defender ... A forward combo (depending on weather and fitness) of Hentschel & Burton (pre-knee's) + Goodwin + Porplyzia + one of the tall kids would cause concern for some pretty good defences.

All hypothetical of course as we'll never get to see it.

Not the first footballer to have his career ruined by a catestrophic knee injury and won't be the last.

Elite sport is not fair and unfortunately Trent will pay the price IMO.

Time to de-list

What most of us aren't privy to, is what replacement options are likely to be available for him ... I wouldn't take a kid not expected to succeed for the sake of it, over Trent ... If there's a better option then fair enough de-listing might be the way to go, but if not I'd hold onto him for at least another year.
