I think that this is the most dramatic quarter in VFL/AFL history. All the easy misses of that quarter, and probably the hardest shot on goal in that quarter wins it.

You could tell the difference in that respect but seriously, some of those misses were terrible.

Hawthorn were an unbelievable side in those days though but should never have won that game.

Of course they should have. They won the game when it mattered most. In an Olympic 100m sprint, the race is won by the person who Crosses the line first, not the one who leads for 99 metres.

The Hawks had Dunstall missing and Brereton was about 20% fit, so it was a good win by the Hawks.

Hawthorn before that video in the last had missed easy shots as well, but amongst those misses were two goals. Then a player who showed incredible nerve in Buckenara stepped up. 4.6 to 0.6 in the last.

It was an amazing win, not taking anything away from them, they stepped up when it mattered most.

Saw this on Channel 7 flashbacks a couple of months ago. Despite what people think of Brereton, for him to go back to CHB in the last quarter of a final and play like he did (in an era of limited moves and verstatility, and that he was always a potential matchwinner at CHF) shows what a champion he was.
