Well done to Michael Wilson on a great career. As a crows supporter I don't like too many port players but Wilson embodied everything that the Port Magpies prided themselves on, toughness and no frills footy. He played it tough but fair and one of the most courageous players ever to grace a football oval.

Well done once again and best of luck in the future. Port would be stupid to let him leave without a coaching position.

Press Conference early arvo i've heard, its a shame but injuries will always take its toll when you play like that. Super Inspiring player, and that from a Crows supporter.

Would love to have seen hm in Black and gold (Genelg) or at least Blue gold and red.

My comments on this bloke are well documented on SAFooty. Gun. Couragous, fair and tough in the trueist football sense .

Congratulations M Wilson on a great career you were truly respected.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

MICHAEL Wilson's courageous AFL career at Port Adelaide is over - and will stay at 192 games.

Wilson, 31, this morning announced his retirement after the Power medical staff gave him no chance of rehabilitating from a right-knee injury.

He has been advised to seek immediate surgery to counter a growing hole in the bone.

My fav wilbur moment was in 2004 when playing Sydney him and Barry Hall were going straight at a footy and he went the bump. Knocked Barry over, won the footy then had the audacity to turn around and laugh at him whilst Hall was still on the ground. At that moment you could sense that port werent going to put up there usual finals display & 2004 was going to be different.

Those 2 courageous marks he took in the dying minutes against St Kilda in the prelim of the same year would go a close second.

Absolute champion who gave 110% every time he ran onto the ground.

Played the last part of 2004 including the GF with two buggered shoulders, could hardly lift them above his head, yet played his role in the flag win.

Well done Wilbur, will miss No 21 going hard at it for the Power.

Always a great player - pitched in even on those occasions when team mates went missing.

Well said all, what more could be added.

Oh,young players out there should/could look at the Michale Wilson instructional video on desperation, commitment, humility, dedication (one of the most intense diets in football by all reports) and courage.

What a sad, sad day for the Port Adelaide Football Club. Wilbur was my favourite player of all time for the reasons everyone has outlined above. I doubt we'll ever have the pleasure of seeing someone quite like him in black and white again.

Swooper, the Barry Hall incident is one that will stick in my mind forever. When Wilbur turned back and give him a mouthful, it was fantastic. He always has eyes for the ball and never thought about the consequences of that approach.

It's a testiment to his character and approach that so many Crows/opposition fans are saying how highly they regarded him.

Well done Wilbur, you'll never be replaced......EVER.
